Each business is given significant autonomy to ensure that customers are placed at the heart of everything they do.The JobReporting to the Head of Finance based at the head office in Brampton, Cumbria as well as a presence in the respective business units:OverviewImprove financial performance of the various businesses by producing insightful recommendations, benchmarking and analysisEnsure systems and processes are efficient, secure and compliant to deliver monthly reportsDevote significant time working in the individual businesses to build collaborative partnerships with the respective teams and General Managers to support the delivery of their financial objectives whilst maintaining regulatory and statutory compliance at all timesPromote and support the individual personal development of the finance teamPartner with senior leaders, providing them with in-person expertise, insight, oversight, challenge, audit and value-adding decision-making support, to help them deliver their strategiesLead the team to ensure the accurate and timely facilitation of group management and statutory accounts and KPI reports to reporting timetablesSummarise the month and YTD position against budget, prior year and prior month and provide insightful analysis, benchmarking and comparatives for the Board, Executive team, and General ManagersAssess the impact of current financial performance on the achievement of medium and long-term objectives and propose options for alternative courses of action as and when necessaryPrepare a monthly consolidated balance sheet, validating the integrity of the data to ensure it provides an accurate narrative of current positionCo-ordinate year-end consolidation, audit, taxation and statutory reporting processAdopt a sound system of working capital and cash management, particularly around customer credit limits, stock turns and the payment of suppliersEnsure that the appropriate taxation, VAT, share and statistical returns are completed accurately and in a timely mannerBudgeting and Strategic PlanningContribute to the strategic business development dialogue by challenging assumptions and decision making, making recommendations to the Head of FinanceEnsure that the financial budgets for individual businesses reflect the agreed strategies and business plansCo-ordinate a timely budget process; provide sufficient challenge and analysis to the numbers and discuss with the General Managers and Head of FinanceInternal ControlImplement a robust system of analytical review, internal control, credit referencing and internal auditing to give the Executive Directors confidence in the numbers being presentedHighlight areas of concern or weakness regarding financial controls and suggest how they could be improvedThe PersonProfessionally qualified accountant (ACA/ ACMA / ACCA)Experience of coaching and mentoring would be advantageousAbility to work as a trusted business partner, advising business unit leaders & General ManagersProvide inspiring leadership to team members, wherever they are located, ensuring that they have the support, resources and training to deliver on their objectivesAdaptable and able to deliver information in a digestible way, with clarity and appropriate to specific audiencesAbility to challenge, coach and motivate and to identify and win over key stakeholders, build relationships and persuade in order to achieve objectivesStrong financial modelling and Excel skillsHighly IT literate, comfortable operating and learning new systemsExcellent verbal and written communication & presentation skills
