Working flexibly,
you'll
spend most of your time working from home, with a day a week in the office (so living close to Haywards Heath, West Sussex would be ideal). But of course,
it’s
your choice - if you prefer to be in the office more -

Covering over a period of maternity leave, you'll co-lead the team and service being responsible for business and regulatory changes, assessment of changes, accounting policy, processes and associated controls.With experience in reconciliation and maintaining audit trails, you'll ensure proportionate safeguarding to wipe out the risk of fraud, error or omission. You'll have a continuous improvement mindset, challenge processes, identify and implement changes, drive improved efficiency, control, insight and have a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting. You’ll
be the perfect person for us if: you've experience in a group accounting function across multiple tax and regulatory jurisdictionsyou're a qualified accountant holding ACCA, ACA or equivalentyou know insurance accounting, IFRS or UK GAAP like the back of your hand!Job responsibilities:Accountable for the Group’s close cycle, ensuring it is performed within the timetable in a controlled and accurate mannerDesign and maintain efficient and effective second line controls within the function through reconciliation and maintaining audit trails to ensure proportionate safeguarding the risk of fraud, error or omissionEnsure adherence to the group’s wider financial control framework, ensuring timely and accurate financial record keeping is maintained at all timesWith a continuous improvement mindset, challenge processes to identify and implement changes which drive improved efficiency, documentation, control, insight and accuracy in financial reportingLead on the accounting of all of the Group’s broking, insurance and reinsurance activitiesLead the preparation of the Group’s annual statutory reporting including the financial statements, Board papers and any other reporting, as well as facilitating the auditMaintain and ensure adherence to the Group accounting policy, recommending compliant options, best practices and assessment of impacts where necessaryLead on accounting memos assessing business and commercial changes on accounting policy, procedure and controls, whilst supporting the team in accommodating the changesReview and maintain controls in place for the preparation and integrity of tax submissions, regulatory returns, intercompany settlements, external bordereau and any other reporting as requiredSupport and develop relationships with the function’s internal and external stakeholders and support activities in other finance teams as requiredDeputise for the Head of Group Financial Accounting and Reporting when requiredDelivering coaching and feedback to direct reports to facilitate professional development and achieve KPI’s and SLA’sConducting regular performance reviews, including probationary reviews and annual appraisals as necessaryDeal with all colleague issues including monitoring absence and conducting disciplinariesLead the recruitment process where necessaryEnsure compliance with Company policy, values and guidelines and other relevant standards / regulations at all timesMaintain department risk registers (as applicable), providing evidence and commentary for controls, updates for Mitigation Actions and maintaining control matrices and attestations. Also, to ensure that your team are aware of their responsibility to identify and report risk.Job-specific competenciesExperience & knowledgeSignificant leadership of an accounting function preferably within personal lines insurance and / or intermediary market5 years post qualified accounting experience preferably with some experience in manager rolesExperience in growing and forming a high-performance team in a fast pace environmentExperiencing in building a balanced team, allowing talent growth and operational stability within a professional services environmentExperience in a group accounting function across multiple tax and regulatory jurisdictionsQualified accountant ACCA / ACAInsurance accounting, IFRS or UK GAAPDirect and indirect taxSkills & QualificationsGood communication skills, both verbal and writtenGood time management and organisation skillsStrong leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire and coach from senior management to assistant level professionals.Strong commercial awareness considering industry peer group and regulatory factorsProficient in Microsoft applicationsStrong mathematical, analytical, communication, and organisation skillsA high level of oral and written communication skills, communicating effectively with senior managers, colleagues, internal and external stakeholdersStrong analytical skills and ability to drive process improvement, based upon analysis of dataWork effectively under pressure and think clearly and logically in challenging situationsBehavioursResults driven with a constant eye on the detail but understand the audienceEmpathetic approach to leadership with an ability to get the best out of a wide range of stakeholdersA driven attitude to deliver controlled change and rapidly overcome obstaclesAn agile approach to project management and able to rapidly react to changes in business priorities to take advantage of emerging business and customer opportunitiesSelf-motivated and enthusiasticAn organised and proactive approachAbility to work on own initiative and as part of a teamA flexible approach and positive attitudeStrives to drive business improvements to contribute to the success of the business
