Join our dynamic team as the Group Financial Accounting Manager and take charge of ensuring precision, compliance, and strategic financial insights across our organisation.The role of Group Financial Accounting Manager will be responsible for coordinating the accounting activities across all business units of the organisation. The main purpose of this role is to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions, compliance with internal and external policies and regulations, managing financial risk, and providing timely and meaningful financial information to stakeholders.So, who are we?You might not have heard of us but we’ve probably met without you even realising it. We’re the UK’s largest commercial news publisher, home to the UK and Ireland’s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers.From the Mirror, Daily Express and OK!, to our regional titles such as the Liverpool Echo, MyLondon, Birmingham Live and the Manchester Evening News (plus lots more), our brands and the stories we cover are as varied as our people.Job DescriptionOversee Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in adherence to GAAP and IFRS standards.Consolidated Financial Statements: Manage the preparation of consolidated group financial statements, ensuring meticulous review and interpretation of financial results.Key Accounting Areas: Take charge of critical accounting areas including revenue recognition, fixed assets, and IFRS 16 leases, ensuring compliance and accuracy.Financial Support: Drive the completion and production of all financial support schedules, crucial for internal management accounts and external announcements.Half-Year and Year End Reporting: Assist in the preparation and review of half-year and year-end financial statements, ensuring regulatory compliance and transparency.Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal controls, ensuring the effectiveness of procedures and adherence to regulatory requirements.Stakeholder Management: Develop and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulatory bodies, and financial institutions.Technical Expertise: Provide guidance on technical accounting standards, staying abreast of IFRS, GAAP, and UK BEIS regulations, and offering insights on application.Collaboration and Support: Partner with cross-functional teams on technical accounting issues, offering support and expertise where necessary.Ad-Hoc Projects: Drive and contribute to ad-hoc projects and requests, showcasing your versatility and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.QualificationsSkillsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyse complex financial information and identify trends and issues.Strong technical accounting skills, with an ability to interpret and apply accounting principles and regulations.Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, assign work, and delegate tasks effectively.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong working relationships.Strong communication and presentation skills, with an ability to present complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and UK BEIS.Qualifications & ExperienceExperience in managing a team of accountants.Strong technical accounting experience, with experience in preparing and reviewing financial statements and leading the month-end close process.Experience in developing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and guidelines.Experience in liaising with external auditors and regulatory bodies, including tax authorities and other financial institutions.Collaboration – Demonstration of working collaboratively, internally and externallyDetermination – Demonstration of perseverance to achieve effective outcomesImagination – Demonstration of creativity and innovationCustomer Focus – Consider the Customer in everything we doAdditional InformationWhat can we offer you?We are offering a competitive salary and benefits including;Help saving for your retirement - join our pension scheme and we’ll match contributions up to 6%25 days’ holiday per year when you join.
