Residential Graduate Sports and Boarding Assistant

Required for September 2023

We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate to develop their skills and gain extensive and worthwhile working experience in a friendly and supportive independent Prep school. The post will be particularly attractive to any graduate considering a career in teaching and for whom a residential role would be an exciting opportunity.

The Role

Sports:

The ethos of our school's sport is 'Sport for excellence, sport for all'. We strive to give children the opportunity to play a wide range of sports, and pupils enjoy dedicated time for physical activities. As a talented and enthusiastic graduate, you will significantly contribute to our thriving Games programme. The major sports include netball, hockey, rounders, and cricket, with swimming and athletics being advantageous. You will be responsible for an age group, planning and leading games sessions, selecting teams for matches, and taking those teams on match days. The role will also involve some administrative tasks and attendance at sports tournaments.

Boarding:

Our boarding community is strong and happy, creating a sense of home for all our boarders. As the Residential Graduate Sports and Boarding Assistant, you will live on-site and fully contribute to boarding school life. This involves supervising in boarding houses alongside the houseparents, assisting with boarding activities and trips, and working on weekends (on a rota basis).

More Broadly (and by mutual agreement):

You will support the pastoral life of the children by assisting Tutor Teams and offering additional activities to enrich their school experience, such as sharing your talents or interests (e.g., Chess or Art). We encourage you to involve yourself and contribute to the wider life of the school.

This is a full-time, term-time only, fixed-term position until 5th July 2024. The salary for this role will be 15,871 per annum.

We can offer:

  • A strong and supportive staff team

  • Valuable teaching experience

  • Single accommodation on site and meals during term time

  • Use of the school's facilities, including the swimming pool and sports facilities, and access to subsidised staff yoga classes

  • Employee Assistance Programme

Closing date: 13th August 2023

We reserve the right to interview and offer to a strong candidate prior to the closing date. For this reason, early applications are encouraged.

Please apply by completing the application form. CVs may be attached, but not in place of the application form. Please return completed applications to [Contact Name and Email Address].

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with current and past employers, online checks, the Disclosure & Barring Service, overseas checks, and the Secretary of State's Prohibition List from Teaching and Management.

About the School:

Our school is situated just to the east of Chichester in beautiful grounds of over 100 acres. We have approximately 380 boys and girls, aged 2 - 13. Most children go on to major Public Schools across the South.

The school boasts outstanding facilities, well-resourced teaching rooms with interactive whiteboards, rooms for Art, Ceramics, ICT, Design Technology, and Food Technology, a separate Science block, Music School, and a modern, 300-seat theatre/assembly hall. We also have a large lake on the north boundary for kayaking.

Academic standards are high, and we use the High Performance Learning philosophy to guide all pupils in becoming good learners. We believe that all pupils have the potential to perform at the highest level regardless of their current performance level.

The Music and Drama departments excel consistently, and regular concerts and school productions involve all children. We offer a wide variety of sports and have extensive playing fields, a 25-meter swimming pool, dance studio, sports hall, squash courts, and a full-sized astro-turf pitch.

We have around 100 boarders who enjoy the full-time boarding option, making the most of our beautiful facilities and grounds. Join us and be a part of our highly skilled and experienced Sports Department, immerse yourself into the boarding community, and contribute to the wider life of our busy school.
