General Counsel and Chief Compliance officer - West London

Our client is looking for our next General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer.
Reporting to the CEO, you will be part of the Leadership Team and will closely support the
Board and shareholders. You will be responsible for a team of 6, with the opportunity to grow the team further as recruitment has been put on hold until our client secures this appointment.
What you'll do
● Provide strategic and effective leadership to the company, as well as our clients well-regarded and award winning Legal
& Compliance Team
● You will act as a collaborative business partner, providing commercially-minded advice and
pragmatic support to the business
● You will be responsible for the Legal department (which covers corporate/M&A, contracts,
partnerships, outsourcing, product counselling, data protection, consumer credit, payments
(money remittance), disputes, IP and employment & share options) and the Compliance
department (which covers monitoring, thematic reviews, audits, regulatory change & horizon
scanning, financial crime, regulatory stakeholder management, policies & procedures,
registers, SMCR and training).
● You will play a key role in important strategic initiatives like funding rounds, debt funding
transactions (to fund our consumer loan portfolios), debt sales (including forward flow
arrangements) and M&A.
● You will help with your compliance team produce and present a Chief Compliance Report each quarter to the RiskCo.
● You will provide effective advice to the Board on complex governance issues, as well key
legal and regulatory issues.
● You will attend to all company secretarial matters (supported by our clients external providers).
● You will manage the Legal & Compliance budget and our clients panel of law firms.
About you
Ideally you will be and have :
● A qualified in English law with 8-10 years PQE
● Experience working as a senior lawyer in-house in a regulated business, particularly consumer credit
● experience advising on corporate governance and corporate transactions as well as consumer credit and associated regulatory matters
● You will be confident engaging with regulators like the FCA
● You have strong leadership skills- you enjoy building effective teams and contributing to
broader leadership matters of the business
● You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where no day is the same
