To provide full technical support to the business and supplier base to ensure that the Company's Quality Assurance standards and Critical Path deadlines are maintained.

Client Details

A leading fashion business in Leeds. The company are going from strength to strength and as a result of internal progression are seeking to add a Garment Technologist to their Product team. The business has been around for more than 80 years and are known for their British Heritage.

Description

  • To manage multi-product casual and formal wear across all brands, ensuring quality standards are maintained whilst adhering to Critical Path deadlines.
  • Create garment specifications containing accurate information on manufacturing methods, including seam construction, pattern information, fully graded charts and concise illustrations for all specific product detailing.
  • Controlling the garment sealing process, in conjunction with the Buying/Merch department, rectifying fits by advising on appropriate pattern corrections and if necessary recommending alternative construction techniques.
  • Critical path management, ensuring all key dates are met and documented
  • Attending Critical Path meetings to aid management of sealing samples and highlight potential issues which could influence the delivery date.
  • Overseas travel as and when required, with decision making at source if necessary changes to manufacturing methods, to resolve pre-shipment issues. With borderline AQL results, the experience to make decisions on how commercially acceptable marginal product is and authorise shipment if required. To communicate on site decisions effectively, to both the buying and merchandise teams.
  • Manage AQL approvals in line with critical path
  • Ensure all information is accurate on care labels, product specific and approved in line with critical path.
  • To independently control/approve fabric test reports from suppliers and 3rd party testing houses and ensure that results and any component parts meet the companies quality standards.
  • Advising suppliers on wash care instructions for all products. Also liaising with external testing houses for any specialist requirements.
  • Communicating with Hartlepool QC dept on gold seal status and on any quality issues found at gold seal stage. Authorising next level inspection when necessary, with 3rd parties and assessing and liaising with suppliers over the results.
  • Garment refurbishment with UK external inspectors when required. Establishing quality levels, agreeing timescales for work completion and negotiating charges for individual jobs.
  • Supplier liaison regarding failed deliveries with confirmation of acceptance and rejection levels on product. Working with buying collaboratively to negotiate discounts relating to garment defects or product recalls enabling the company to recover all costs and suitable compensation.
  • Trading standards liaison to ensure that the products supplied to the company meet all UK/Global legislation.
  • Keeping track of testing and fit costs within agreed budget levels each season. Forecast to be issued to HOB and actualised throughout the season.
  • Contribution and collaboration to the supplier manual, ensuring all standard and communicated through this manual effectively.

Profile

  • Be multi-skilled and have an extensive range of product knowledge.
  • Garment construction and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Pattern cutting/grading skills and ability to advise clearly any necessary adjustments to supplier/factory.
  • Able to assess garment fit and product/design suitability.
  • Ability to complete in-house AQL inspections UK & overseas, where several locations and product types can be inspected during one visit.
  • Knowledge of testing methods and standards.
  • Knowledge of appropriate wash-care required for fabrics and finishes.
  • Experience and initiative to make good commercial decisions.
  • Good process management skills.
  • Good communication skills/ strong team player
