The Person

Imagine this. The sun is shining. It’s warm and the insects are buzzing. Your Echinacea’s, which were a bit touch and go for a while, are coming on nicely and those Hebe’s look great, as they always do. At times like this, is there anything better than working outdoors?

You’ll need to answer no to that last one obviously, despite the rain. You’ll be a gardener yourself; your customers rely on you for advice and you’ll want to spend your days helping those customers by offering your knowledgeable and professional advice. You’ll be comfortable working with people, retail is a people job after all, and you’ll want to share your knowledge with your team, helping them be better at their job.

The Role

The job has a lot going for it but is all about working with a company that shares your passion. You’ll get full training and plenty of ongoing support but the plant area will be yours to run and you'll have plenty of freedom to make decisions on the range, working with some suppliers and growers. You'll also lead and develop a small team of like-minded individuals who'll benefit from your plant knowledge. That's something to get your teeth into and something you could look back on with real pride. On top of that, it pays well, the hours are pretty social and, while weekend working goes with territory, you’ll have every other weekend off.
