From YTS Joiner to Project Manager

Starting off in the construction industry as a YTS Joiner, Andy has worked his way up to become a Project Manager.Andy was taken on as an apprentice Joiner with Balfour Beatty and completed his apprenticeship via day release courses with Reid Kerr College in Paisley. After 11 years of working with Balfour Beatty and working his way to Site Foreman, Andy decided to become self-employed for a few years before taking up a staff position with Mowlem Construction as Works Manager; this is where he met our Managing Director John Aitchison, where they were both involved on the £4.5m Apex City Hotel project in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket.After gainingconsiderable experience working on various projects, Andy found himself progressing to Project Manager position with Stewart Milne Construction Ltd in 2008.Since joining Maxi Construction in 2015, Andy has been Project Manager on many of our complex projects:This project involved the demolition of an existing unit and the construction of a new building providing over 4,500m 2
of space, sub-divided into 5 retail units, within an operational retail park. Andy’s extensive industry experience, attention to detail and proactive approach allowed this project to be delivered to a high standard with the Client’s post contract review survey scoring 5/5 (Very Good) for Service, Cost and Health & Safety.Linlithgow Partnership Centre | £3mThe works comprised internal alterations, refurbishment and fit-out of the 2 and 3-storey Grade B listed County Buildings to provide a hub for local community services including a library, Customer Information Services (CIS), registrar, Police Scotland and local authority office accommodation.
