Freelance Academic Trainers

Posted a month ago

Company Description
Smart Thinking is a membership organisation providing training and professional development to those working in UK think tanks and Westminster. We provide tailored training on all areas relevant to those working in policy. Core topics include public speaking, fundraising, leadership, people management, writing for impact and research project management.
Role Description
We are expanding our existing training programme and are looking for those currently working in academia who have experience of both teaching and research to join our team of freelance trainers. This is an ideal opportunity to supplement your income in a role that is flexible and convenient for you.
About You
You will be an energetic academic who enjoys teaching in a busy and stimulating environment. The content of the training will be provided for you - what is more important is that you are able to create a lively and convivial environment for people to learn in. You do not need to have many years under your belt to apply, we are more interested in those who can hold a room, make learning fun and who are willing to share their experiences to help those in the classroom.
You will be working with and training intelligent and highly motivated groups who will shape policy and government in the years to come.
Further Details
This is a freelance contract role. You will be expected to be well-versed in at least one of the courses we offer as well as representing and reflecting Smart Thinking’s ethos in your teaching style and approach, cultivating a lively and interactive environment within your sessions. You will be paired with topics that relate to your previous experiences in both teaching and learning but part of your role is to ensure that you are well-versed and comfortable teaching these topics to a high standard.
The number of training sessions per month you will be expected to lead will vary depending on demand but you will regularly be asked to be available for at least one day a month to lead a session in central London.
As one of our Smart Thinking trainers you will be required to attend a 2 day paid training course in order to familiarise yourself with the Smart Thinking ethos and teaching style as well as our content and materials.
Remuneration
Each trainer will be paid a flat £300 per day per training session to include preparation, with lunch and travel expenses on top.
How to Apply
If you have experience teaching students plus completing research work then we want to hear from you! You do not have to be very advanced in your academic career - we are more interested in those with the right energy and enthusiasm who can become brand ambassadors for us as we build up our training school. This is also a great chance to join something at the beginning and be involved as we expand and become known for high-quality, relevant, and enjoyable training.
