The reliability and accuracy of its data help customers make adequate decisions and meet their increasingly stringent quality and safety standards and the expanding demands of regulatory authorities around the world.Job DescriptionLocation: Tamworth, UK Contract: PermanentThe RoleWe are looking to recruit an enthusiastic scientist for our Marks and Traces (M&T) team based at our laboratory facility in Tamworth, Staffordshire. M&T covers a wide range of disciplines in physical and chemical traces such as gunshot residue, glass, paint, ignitable liquids and fire investigation, noxious and corrosive substance testing, fibres, footwear marks and unknown substances.). The examiner role is responsible for the completion of the examination work and/or analysis of samples, following strategies and instructions set by reporting scientists. This is an entry level role and full training will be given.Role includes some facilities support in-team, such as exhibit management, laboratory cleaning and stock control. Although rarely requested, this role occasionally requires production of a suitable witness statement and attendance at Courts of Law.Key Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesExaminations of variety of exhibits to standard operating procedure requirements and required turnaround timesLaboratory and exhibit managementComplete training, self-study and maintain set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and competencies.Reporting in accordance with set turnaround timesFully adhere to the Forensic Regulator’s Code of PracticeBe responsible for the integrity and continuity of exhibits while under ownership.QualificationsKnowledge, Experience and Technical SkillsGrade A-C in English, Maths and Science and ideally an A-level or equivalent in a scientific subjectDemonstrate good communication and organisational skillsHave high levels of resilience and flexibility and the ability to work to deadlinesDemonstrate ownership of issues and their resolutionCommunicate and work proactively with others (both colleagues and customers), focussing on a collective goalEmbrace continuous improvement projects with active involvementAbility to work in a highly stressful and emotive situations and dealing with details of distressing cases.PreferredAt least one year work experience ideally in a laboratory or commercial forensic settingA recognised qualification in chemistry, analytical or forensic sciencesDemonstrable knowledge of health & safety, such as COSHH assessorDriving licence.
