Team:
This role is one of 17 Underwriters within the Property division. Our risks range from multi-billion dollar businesses to small apartments on Caribbean islands. We operate within Major Property, Commercial Lines, Flood and Household risks. We underwrite as a team through a combination of
e-trading, worldwide
delegated authorities and box underwriting.
Role
We are looking to recruit an underwriter to join our Flood line of business. Flood is a key growth area for London Market. Hiscox entered the US primary flood market in 2015 and our team has spent the last 7 years building out our award winning FloodPlus suite of products and systems in order to rapidly expand our market share and take advantage of the opportunity US flood presents.
This role will involve day to day underwriting of risks in the US with some of your time spent at the box trading with brokers in addition to
portfolio management
and new business development.
Key responsibilities:
Underwriting risks presented to Hiscox via brokers.
Management of binding authorities.
Support the development of our products and refinement of our pricing.
Develop new business across the US.
Support in further development of our underwriting system, control processes and reporting suite
Conduct market and
industry research
to develop knowledge.
Have the ability to establish and manage productive, professional broker relationships.
Attend client meetings and events to grow industry knowledge and sell Hiscox’s brand.
Contribute to wordings and contract review process.
Support with the account management and business planning.
Person specification:
Experience of portfolio management is essential.
A long track record of delegated authority underwriting experience would be looked upon favourably
Multi-class experience
would be looked upon favourably
Strong mathematical
literacy and interested in technical aspects of underwriting
and pricing.
A-level Science or Maths as a minimum.
A confident communicator with demonstrable communication skills both oral
and written.
A strong track record of working successfully in a team.
Possesses an interest and knowledge of the London Market and Flood insurance.
Progress in ACII examinations or commitment to complete them.
A natural innovator who always looks for a better way to service their customer.
A winning attitude; hungry for knowledge, never satisfied and a passion for innovation.
A team player; believes in achieving as a team, has empathy for others and approachable even in stressful times.
Adaptable; Always looks for a better way, flexible in style and resilient to change.
