We are looking to recruit a Fire Systems Engineer to manage craftsmen and contractors responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Fire Detection, Alarm and associated Suppression systems required to protect the company assets for the Speciality Steels business units.

The Role
The Fire Systems Engineer has a leading role in determining, developing, and implementing Fire Safety policy and strategy. You will ensure both the implementation and compliance with the Business Code of Practice, relevant Legislation, British and European Standards.
The Fire Engineer will ensure compliance, identify growth and improvement opportunities in Fire Safety using best practice and the most cost-effective solutions to achieve short and long-term goals.
To liaise with Local Fire Authorities, Business Insurers, and other relevant parties to protect the company's assets and minimise the impact of Fire.
Principal Accountabilities
Implement the operational and maintenance policy for the Fire Detection and Suppression systems for the Speciality Steels sites in order to always ensure that activities carried out are consistent with all relevant procedures, legislation, standards, behaviours and performance targets.
Manage and audit contractors to ensure they meet company policy and statutory Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and expectations.
Effectively communicate with business units to ensure a good understanding of systems and site status, particularly system defects, to ensure the correct level of notification is given to the Business Insurers and local Fire Authorities.
Advise Business units of Fire Safety Legislation, Building Fire Risk Assessment and Training requirements, Lease with business units and Business Insurers to facilitate the Audit process.
Advise Business units on the condition and suitability of systems and associated equipment enabling a forward plan of obsolescence replacement and system development.
Tender and negotiate service contracts for and on behalf of Speciality Steels.
Manage and monitor the delivery of contracts for supplying and maintaining Fire safety equipment, CO2 / Inergen (Safe Gas) and Water Sprinkler Systems.
Provide advice, expertise and consultancy support in specialist areas to support effective decision-making and the resolution of Fire System problems and the delivery of projects.
Lead and carry out Fire investigations, including failure identification and root cause investigations, evaluating and selecting technical options, preparation of reports including business cases, with suggested recommendations to support both the resolution of problems and engineering improvements.
Knowledge & Experience
Knowledge
Expert knowledge of Fire Detection and Suppression systems, Fire Safety and its relevant legislation.
Qualified to HNC or equivalent in electrical / electronic / process control.
At least 5 years management experience in the operation and maintenance of Fire Systems and associated equipment.
Knowledge of electrical safety, health, safety and environmental legislation.
Experience of Engineering organisation in the Steel industry particularly in planning and organisation of maintenance activities.
Skills
Effective man manager with the necessary leadership skills to motivate a diverse workforce.
Strong Drive, Motivation and Commitment
The post holder should have good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse pertinent information for logic-based problem solving.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Able to communicate in clear concise manner, both in writing and orally, communicating honestly, clearly and directly, making effective use of communication technology.
Computer literate with practical experience of maintenance management systems
Project management skills.
A team worker, with a flexible approach to work.

This is a days role, some weekend working is required on a rota basis. The Fire Systems Engineer may be contacted at any time (day & night) to give technical guidance to plant or provide rapid response to Fire Suppression System discharges breakdowns or incidents.
