Job Title: Finance Manager

Salary Range: �62,457 - �70,400

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to join the vibrant community of Islington, supporting its local authority in navigating the complexities of financial management and contributing to the enhancement of public services. As the Finance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective budgetary control, providing expert advice, and facilitating strategic decision-making processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to facilitate effective budgetary control, identifying variations and emerging financial pressures. Provide budget managers with comprehensive options and plans for resolution.

  • Act as a senior specialist advisor, representing the Council on high-level complex financial matters. Offer timely, accurate, and appropriate guidance to staff at all levels, in alignment with the Council's policies and procedures. Promote awareness of good financial practice and control.

  • Prepare and present high-quality, informative reports to members and senior stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making processes at both service and corporate levels.

  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of statutory and other returns. Obtain senior management sign-off prior to submission, adhering to relevant regulations and standards.

Requirements:

  • Full member of CCAB (preferably CIPFA), CFA, or ACT with significant post-qualification experience.

  • Evidence of significant relevant CPD is essential.

  • Demonstrable experience in translating organisational drivers into strategic objectives and longer-term plans within a large public sector organisation, preferably local government.

  • Proven ability to persuade stakeholders to collaborate and focus on community needs, fostering an environment of cooperation and shared purpose.

  • Experience in preparing business cases for investment decisions, including proficiency in options appraisals and evaluation techniques.
