Job Title: Commercial Estimator
Department/ Section: Fire Protection.
Reports to: Head of Estimating
Package:
Salary – 30k-55k depending on industry experience.
23 days Holiday + 8 Days Bank Holidays + 1 day birthday holiday (after probation) – minus 3 days for Christmas shutdown
Company car/car allowance providing more than 800 business miles are being completed (likely to be provided after a 6-month probation and requirements)

Main purposes of job:
Provide accurate cost estimates for projects, enabling informed decision
making and competitive bidding for projects.
Role and Responsibility:
Project Analysis:
Prepare work for estimation by collecting and reviewing project proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents.
Conduct on-site surveys to gain a comprehensive understanding of client requirements and site conditions.
Cost Estimation:
Identify the labour, material, and time requirements for each project by meticulously analysing proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents.
Calculate project costs by carefully considering labour, material, and time requirements.
Present detailed estimates by assembling and presenting numerical and descriptive information.
Reporting and Documentation:
Compile and maintain comprehensive project cost reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising relevant data and industry trends.
Keep an updated cost database by entering and backing up essential data.
Prepare Bills of Quantities for projects as required.
Collaboration and Communication:
Liaise effectively with the contract management team, commercial team, suppliers, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders. Respond promptly to on-site queries and provide necessary support to ensure project success.
Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrate proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and Word to facilitate accurate calculations and documentation.
Tender Submission:
Ensure that tender submissions are complete, accurate, and submitted within the provided timeframes.
Supplier and Subcontractor Management:
Maintain and update supplier and subcontractor databases to ensure access to reliable and cost effective resources.
Company Representation:
Promote a positive image of the company to existing clients, prospective clients, and peers within the construction industry.
Continuous Learning:
Stay updated with industry advancements by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications.

Technical Knowledge:
Have a strong understanding of passive fire protection systems, materials, and installation techniques. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards.

Possess excellent leadership qualities to effectively communicate, manage and motivate a team. Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities are crucial for successful project execution.
Organisational Skills:
Be highly organised and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. Effective time management and resource allocation skills are necessary to meet project deadlines and budgetary constraints. Be adept at prioritising their own workload to ensure completion of high priority tasks, over urgent tasks.

A strong commitment to safety is essential, responsible, and accountable for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting a culture of safety on site.
Client Relationship Management:
Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

Be flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements, deadlines, and environments. The ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced construction environment is crucial. An unflappable demeanour is crucial for the successful management of projects.
