An exciting opportunity has become available for an Environmental and Sustainability Officer based in Netherton, Bootle.
The vacancy will require the applicant to ensure projects comply with environmental regulations and targets by addressing issues such as air quality, land and water contamination, waste management and environmental impact. Compile and communicate company environmental targets and achievements to a variety of stakeholders. Propose and implements strategies to address various environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability. Draft and implement sustainable organisational policies that address environmental concerns.
Key roles will include:
Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure corporate sustainable development.
Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy.
Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices.
Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with UK, EU and international regulation and legislation.
Consult with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies, and competent bodies.
Audit, analyse and report environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
Conduct impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce an organisation’s environmental risks and financial costs.
Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
Educate and train employees, contractors, and other stakeholders on environmental issues and best practices.
Implement best practice in areas of corporate, ethical, and social responsibility and address any issues arising.
Maintain environmental management systems to continually improve the impact of the organisation on the environment.
Participate in environmental education and research.
Negotiate environmental service agreements and manage associated costs and revenues.
Draft environmental reports, assuming lead responsibility in the company
Set organisational sustainability targets, developing plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery.
Monitor, record, and report carbon emissions of fleet vehicles
Identify and develop green travel initiatives.
Requirements
Understand and utilise systems to carry out problem solving.

Demonstrate strong leadership and influence.
Display a high level of computer literacy.
Show commercial awareness and an understanding of business.
Be self-motivated and able to engage staff at all levels.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to collect and collate information and present it in a clear and relevant manner.
Manage projects, as well as produce and deliver presentations.
Establish effective networks, both internally and externally
Full, clean driving licence
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience
A bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:2) in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, or a related field (Essential)
Proven experience of working in a sustainability role or in a related area with expertise in climate change and sustainability strategies (Desirable)
Experience of working with a wide range of partners and stakeholders (Desirable)
Package Description
Salary – £23k to £25k dependent on experience and candidate profile
Location: Bootle
