Platform Resourcing are working in partnership with a Manufacturing Business based in Cardiff who are looking to employ a permanent Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to support the Operational Management team to raise and maintain a high level of health and safety in line with the Health and Safety objectives. This key role will be responsible for the general safety on-site and will ensure that the staff team, employees, contractors and visitors are kept safe, whilst actively contributing to continuously improving relevant policies and procedures.

The successful Health & Safety Manager will have years of experience within a senior H&S position, either within manufacturing or engineering environments. They will have the ability and confidence to provide advice on health and safety matters and provide guidance throughout the business, looking at continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing departments, working closely with the Production, Technical and Quality Managers. There will be a H&S Administrator and a Sustainability Advisor reporting into you.

ESH Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be the companies "competent person" for health, safety and environment.
  • Maintain and continuously develop the businesses Health, Safety and environmental management system to ensure it remains current and fit for purpose.
  • To implement a rolling health, safety, environmental and wellbeing communication strategy.
  • Provide a first point of contact for all Health, Safety and Environmental matters throughout the organization
  • Ensure that the businesses risk assessments and Health, Safety and environmental management systems are reviewed regularly
  • Complete audits and reviews of the businesses internal health and safety systems to ensure that policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Carry out risk assessments, COSHH assessments and manual handling assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
  • Outline standard operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
  • Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation.
  • Carry out health and safety inductions.
  • Carry out proactive safety monitoring such as fire drills & first aider scenario tests.
  • Carry out in-house training with employees about health and safety issues and risks.
  • Investigate & record incidents and accidents, producing statistics for senior management.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all health and safety executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry.
  • Produce health & safety communications, lesson learnt, safety alerts.
  • Organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. Asbestos
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. Fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.

ESH Manager Essential Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience within a Senior Health and Safety position within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Experience of auditing, reporting and continuous improvement
  • Experience of implementing change, changing safety culture in a positive manner
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
  • TechIOSH with evidence of CPD
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Knowledge of ISO standards: 9001, 14001 and 45001
  • IT Literate - Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills with Senior Managers, Clients and Site Personnel
  • Knowledge of SharePoint online beneficial
  • Environmental Certificate beneficial
