Apply to jobs in just one click.The role: As part of the OPA’s continued investment and expansion, we are looking to recruit an Environmental Engineer.This newly created role will provide environmental technical support and risk management to line management, other functional teams and stakeholders, through the application of risk management tools, provision of technical advice, and support of business initiatives. As well as supporting the management of Environmental Permits, including initial application, variation application, and periodic reporting requirements as defined in these permits.Working remotely, in a number of virtual teams, will necessitate the post holder being a self-starter, reliant, and able to communicate and champion a vital element of the Agency’s culture.Due to operations over our assets being managed covering sites across England, Scotland and overseas, necessitates a significant amount of travel and need to spend nights away from home in order to carry out the duties required. Therefore, a full (preferably) clean driving licence is essential for this role.Responsibilities:Provide technical support to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in such matters as land, water, waste water treatment processes and Hazardous & Non-Hazardous Materials.Act as point of contact for Environmental compliance issues.Be responsible for developing the environmental strategy and the forward agenda for sustaining environmental performance.Support Operations to collate, co-ordinate and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements in accordance with the PPC permits.Coordinate the preparation, submission and/or surrender of Regulatory permits.Work with Operations to ensure compliance monitoring requirements, such as borehole monitoring are met.Knowledge and required skills:Knowledge and experience in compliance with regulatory requirements in such matters as land, water, waste water treatment processes and Hazardous & Non-Hazardous MaterialsUnderstanding and application of the requirements of PSLGSkilled in technical report analysis and writing with experience of auditing.Vocational qualifications within core or related professional competences, that ideally include Environmental Management Systems, and Risk Management, with knowledge to manage and improve the OPA’s Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001.Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.The candidate: Candidates must hold a relevant BS degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or Chemical / Process or Mechanical Engineering, with relevant experience in a regulatory, environmental, consulting, or industrial setting in an Environmental or Engineering role.You will need to be experienced in all aspects of environmental management, with an in-depth understanding of the regulatory aspects of MATTEs/MAHs, as these relate to tank storage operations, COMAH regulatory requirements, and permitting requirements, and must possess a working knowledge of CDOIF Environmental Risk Assessments.Trainer experience with a trainer qualification is desirable, and any experience in relation to BREEAM compliance, would be advantageous.It is preferable that the successful candidate will live within reasonable commuting distance of an OPA site, or be prepared to travel as required to satisfy work commitments.Remember: You should never send cash or cheques to a prospective employer, or provide any financial information.Please get in touch
