Milestone Infrastructure is a part of the Transport Division within M Group Services. We currently deliver highways and street lighting maintenance contracts and a variety of large, complex, civil engineering projects across southern and central England.
We are currently looking to recruit an Environmental Design Advisor to work across all contracts / projects in the UK with a focus on Oxfordshire. As the Environmental Design Advisor you will be part of our Environmental Technical Team.
The Environmental Design Advisor will be instrumental in improving environmental performance, driving sustainability, and developing impact assessments for a diverse range of highways projects within Oxfordshire and across the UK. You will manage and deliver environmental inputs by working closely with design engineers and delivery teams to intercept and mitigate potential environmental effects. You will engage and consult across a wide range of audiences and effectively manage resources and budgets. You will support the growth and development of our Environmental Technical Team through delivery of specialist environmental and sustainability consultancy services across Milestone Infrastructure, M Group Services, and other third-party clients.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements for the Environmental Design Advisor:
Degree level qualification in an environmental or related subject
Previous experience of EIA and working with limited supervision in multi-disciplinary teams
Sound knowledge and experience of the EIA processes (including screening and scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation
Experience in construction and infrastructure sectors
Experience of liaising with internal and external clients, planning authorities, statutory regulators, and stakeholders
Experience of undertaking desk studies, research, data management, report writing, and project management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to work from Milestone offices across Oxfordshire and to travel to other locations within the UK when required
Knowledge and/or experience of undertaking sustainability, carbon and/or biodiversity assessments

Championing high standards of environmental performance within multidisciplinary highways projects, influencing project development, and delivering optimal environmental outcomes
Quality of deliverables relative to client requirements
Delivery of training to Design Teams
Effective communication and engagement with Design Teams
Compliance with ISO14001 accredited management system procedures
Delivery of tangible benefits by encouraging and supporting value engineering and alternative ways of working
Improving communication and collaboration between contract design and delivery teams, supply chain partners and other M Group organisations
Managing own workload and time allocation to meet utilisation targets and maximise revenue generation
Securing additional work through effective delivery of consultancy services for a range of clients and promoting positive project outcomes
Driving improvements in current design processes which align with PAS2080 principles
KEY RESULT AREAS
Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a range of projects, with a focus on the management of design environmental assessment
Preparing EIA screening and scoping reports and Environmental Statements, including the technical review of specialist chapters
Working with both engineers and other environmental specialists to consider all aspects of design development, whilst providing guidance and advice to ensure compliance
Identifying opportunities for improvement and enhancement by undertaking carbon, biodiversity net gain, and sustainability assessments
Providing technical direction and oversight for projects including writing and reviewing reports and other documents in a range of formats
Inputting into fee proposals covering environmental support as well as managing time allocation in accordance with agreed Task Orders and utilisation targets
Liaising with statutory regulators, consultees, and stakeholders in relation to environmental constraints and opportunities identified within the environmental assessment
Supporting the growth and performance of the Environmental Technical Team through delivery and business development
Line managing and supporting the development of graduates within the team as required
