Engineering Project Manager

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Engineering Project Manager, to be involved in
industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
Job Purpose
The purpose of the Engineering Project Manager is to oversee and manage engineering projects. This includes, project planning, project execution, monitoring and controlling the project and closing out the project.
Key Results & Achievements

  • Act as a primary Engineering and Programme interface on behalf of the overall Project for the relevant package of work.
  • On-time and on budget project delivery,
  • Development, and regular monitoring and updating of project plans,
  • Planning, monitoring, reporting and of deliverable data,
  • Produce and regularly update financial forecasts,
  • Keeping stakeholders informed of project progress and ensuring they are satisfied with the outcomes,
  • Creating a positive and productive work environment both within the project team and engineering teams,
  • Document lessons learned and apply these in future work,
  • Manage project risks and provide actionable mitigations,
  • Provide regular written and verbal updates of project progress, changes, opportunities, issues, and resolution plans,
  • Identify and implement improvements to the organisations processes and ways of working,
  • Production of projects structures e.g. WBS, and influence ways of working within a complex engineering environment.

Key Selection Criteria
Criteria 1 - Project management

  • Knowledge: The Engineering project managers need to be familiar with project management

methodologies and tools. They should also have a good understanding of risk management, budget management, and change management.

  • Experience: Should also have experience managing projects. This should be demonstrated by previous on-the-job experience. There should be previous experience of setting up and delivering complex engineering projects (multiyear, multi �M projects).
  • Skills: A variety of project management skills, such as planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and change management.
  • Technical skills: Knowledge of specific software and tools (training can be provided where gaps exist), including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, ARM, SAP, excel, Power BI and Power Apps.

Criteria 2 - Technical knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in planning, controlling budgets, risk & opportunities, managing dependencies and driving to schedules, within an engineering, regulatory and / or technical environment.
  • Data analysis to inform decision making and drive performance.
  • Reporting to a wide range of stakeholders, including concurrent sub-contracted work packages.
  • Management of complex delivery models through the full engineering lifecycle: Design, Procurement, Manufacture and Construction.
  • Engineering experience: Have experience working as an engineer within highly regulated industry.

Criteria 3 - Behaviours

  • Leadership: Be a strong leader, able to motivate and inspire the team members to achieve their goals.
  • Communication: Be an excellent communicator. Should be able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including engineers, managers, and customers.
  • Organisation: Be highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and keep track of all the details.
  • Problem-solving: Identify and solve problems effectively, be able to come up with creative solutions to unexpected challenges.
  • Adaptability: Be adaptable, able to change course quickly and easily in response to changes in the project or the environment.

Criteria 4 - Industry knowledge Have a good understanding of the following:

  • Nuclear Industry, including competitive landscape, and the latest trends and developments.
  • Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
  • Nuclear regulatory environment.

Criteria 5 - Other Skills

  • Communication skills: Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
    Problem-solving skills: Have strong problem-solving skills. Should be able to identify and solve problems effectively.
  • Organisational skills: Engineering project managers need to be highly organized. They should be able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and keep track of all the details.
    Engineering project managers play a vital role in the success of any engineering project. By having the right knowledge, experience, behaviours, and skills, they can help to ensure that projects are completed on time, on budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Cross-functional: Understanding of non-core project management roles such as purchasing, commercial, engineering management etc.

Pay and Benefits
We anticipate a paying salary of �65,000 (Negotiable DOE), a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of �2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.

Our Application Process
Due to the safety regulations within the nuclear industry, applicants will be required to participate in additional screening. These are:

  • Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
  • Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
