Title - Employment Associate/Senior AssociatePQE Range: 2-7Employment TeamAssociate (12 Month Fixed-Term Contract Minimum)Background to the FirmOrtus Group have been exclusively retained by a leading mid-market law firm based in smart offices in the City of London to help attract/recruit a high quality employment associate. The firm provide a comprehensive legal service to a wide range of businesses and private individuals. The client base includes multinationals, public and private companies, partnerships, public sector organisations and private clients.The Employment team has previously been recommended by Legal 500 and is part of the wider Commercial Services Department which also comprises the practice groups of Corporate and Commercial. The Department’s culture is a very supportive one and there is an emphasis on a high level of professionalism and encouragement of members of the department to develop their potential and to raise the firm's profile.The Employment TeamThe Employment Teamcurrently comprises two Partners, one Senior Associate, one Associate, one trainee, one secretary and work closely with our colleagues in the Immigration Team.They provide advice to UK and international clients including corporate entities, partnerships and individuals.The candidate will need a good knowledge and experience of contentious and non-contentious matters, covering all areas of employment law including the termination of employment,
grievance/disciplinary
issues, discrimination, employment status and
employment/consultancy
agreements, directors’ services agreements, TUPE transfers, restrictive covenants and issuing and defending claims in the Employment Tribunal and High Court (where we can access assistance from our Dispute Resolution Department). Corporate support will be required on transactional matters.The successful candidate will actively assist in developing the practice by working mainly on their own files, and with others on larger transactions. In accordance with the general practice of the firm, the candidate will have significant responsibility and client contact, and will enjoy the support and encouragement of other members of the Team at all levels.Role and ResponsibilitiesTo be responsible, under the supervision of the partner, for the day-to-day running of matters and by way of example to undertake the following:Produce excellent work and deliver it in line with client expectations.Carry out work expeditiously and professionally.Assist in the supervision of trainee solicitors and others where appropriate.Comply with the continuing education requirements of the Law Society and, over and above those requirements, to ensure that adequate training is undertaken to keep up to date with changes in the law.Ensure that all time spent on any matter is recorded and that recorded time is monitored regularly and billed promptly.Observe compliance with the firm’s protocols in accordance with its Lexcel accreditation.Consolidate the relationship with clients and actively seek to market the services of the Team, Department and the wider firm to clients and potential clients and referrers.Attend the firm’s networking and marketing events, initiate and undertake business development activities.Be an enthusiastic and collegiate team player.Whilst this is a 12 month FTC role there is a genuine situation where this would turn into a full time employment role at the end of this period.Please get in touch to find out more.Dan Sill - Ortus GroupSend me alerts about jobs like this.Please enter your email address to continue setting up an email alert for similar jobs to this one.
