One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for an Employer Engagement Officer. This is a temporary contract for 3 months with possible further extension based on budget and performance.





Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary



The post holder will be based within a new in-house resource of peripatetic youth employment and skills workers, who will work with cohorts of vulnerable young people to provide a bespoke blend of functional, vocational and employability skill. This role will lead on the development of sector-specific initiatives linked to key sector growth areas with a focus on improving employment outcomes for young people aged 18-25.



 The post holder will establish, grow and facilitate outcome-driven, effective partnerships with employers and training providers, to develop innovative pathways into key industry sectors through programmes of activity that provide varied and meaningful experiences of work. They will also demonstrate flexibility and openness to change, taking a dynamic and proactive attitude to working with local employers.





Duties and Responsibilities




  • Lead on the establishment and development of strong working relationships and clear partnerships with key employers to identify and generate pathways to employment.

  • Oversee the design and brokerage of a range of opportunities for vulnerable young people across key industry sectors, including work experience, training courses, taster activities, as well as paid employment and apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Work closely with employers and council colleagues to ensure that opportunities are appropriate, flexible and accessible, and designed to meet the needs of both employers and young people.

  • Where appropriate, broker bespoke opportunities based upon the individual needs and interest of vulnerable young people engaged in the targeted employment and skills programme.

  • Act as an expert on key sectors offering youth employment opportunities, enabling service managers to understand and maximise the potential to open up pathways for Islington young people, and working with services to ensure that this is delivered.

  • Work across the Employment, Skills and Culture division and other council departments to develop a deeper understanding of the local businesses and training organisations and identify opportunities for joint working with business facing colleagues internally and in neighbouring boroughs. 

  • Account manage high profile employer relationships and ensure that iWork Youth Employment Coaches and other relevant partners are feeding appropriate clients through an effective preparation process, and that good quality feedback is available. 

  • Disseminate local labour market information and sectoral knowledge, and support managers to use this to plan services to increase positive outcomes for residents.

  • Forecast upcoming opportunities and proactively develop innovative approaches to supporting employers to recruit better locally, through identifying alternative recruitment methods and advocating for the standards recommended by the Employment Commission.

  • Ensure that both young people and employers are properly supported, that health and safety measures and other considerations have been appropriately applied and support employers in preparing training/career plans. Provide good quality feedback and advocacy where appropriate.
