We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Operational Services department as an Emergency Planning Engineer, based in Shiremoor (North Tyneside), Riverside House (Sunderland) or Castleford.

Reporting to the Network Resilience Manager, the Emergency Planning Engineer utilises a level of network, process and legislative knowledge to deliver network and organisational resilience and business continuity emergency plans and responses, including supporting internal and external stakeholder engagement in the field of emergency planning.

Key Responsibilities:
·Act as single point of contact for specified Local Resilience Forums (LRFs) and Government Departments linked to resilience
·Build and manage external relationships with specified LRFs and ensure compliance with the Civil Contingency Act
·Represent the company at LRF meetings, workshops and exercises in a professional, clear and concise way
·Preparation and analysis of detailed business continuity plans, including crisis management plans, codes of practice and development of internal policy in compliance with the Civil Contingencies Act
·Represent the company alongside other BHE global platforms on operational emergency planning and response relating to the electricity network
·Participate in the preparation of technical exercise scenarios and materials for both internal and external exercises
·Monitor internal and external information sources associated with the areas of emergency planning and advise appropriate managers of any upcoming issues or changes
·Build and maintain relationships with colleagues at all levels and all parts of the business and assist the business in achieving customer services and network operations standards
·Develop and maintain aspects of the Major Incident Management Plan and support the company in response to major incidents and exceptional events both in and outside of normal working hours
·Provide support to strategic and tactical commands during major incidents or civil emergencies as per an allocated role within the company’s major incident management plan
·Work with other Emergency Planning Engineers as and when required

·Sound judgement & decision making, proactively work on own initiative and anticipate requirements
·Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills - display a sense of urgency, able to work at pace, prioritise and deliver outputs with minimal supervision
·Excellent team and people management skills, including the ability work with senior colleagues and key stakeholders
·Work effectively under time pressure, able to manage, coordinate and drive the production of key deliverables at pace, often under time-constrained conditions
·Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to find innovative solutions to complex problems
·Strong communication and skills (verbal, report writing and presentational), with the ability to clearly present complex concepts in an understandable manner
·Have an eye for detail to ensure that outgoing deliverables are of the highest standard
Qualifications and Attributes:
Essential Qualifications: evidence must be provided
·Minimum HNC in electrical engineering or equivalent STEM subject
Essential Experience:
·Familiarity with the plans, processes and constraints in responding to network major incidents or other emergency events
·Confidence in dealing with customers & stakeholders at a senior level in individual and meeting environments
·Full driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable Qualifications:
·Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in suitable subject
Desirable Experience:
·Proven problem-solving experience.
·Advanced use of MS Office applications including Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint.
·Excellent planning and time management skills
