Embedded Software Engineer

The successful candidate will join our client's UK L-Band Centre of Excellence, tasked with
crafting top-tier Embedded Software for their L-Band Terminal range. Under the guidance of
the Senior Embedded Software Engineer and the Engineering Manager, they will design and
execute embedded software for Satellite Communication Terminals, ensuring adherence to
schedules, budgets, performance benchmarks, and quality benchmarks. Collaborating with a
diverse team spanning engineers, project managers, and QA specialists across the UK and
South Korea, they will contribute to the creation of products primed for mass production
and long-term deployment. Their role encompasses comprehensive tasks across the
development life cycle, including customer needs assessment, requirements analysis, system
engineering, design, testing, quality assurance, and production transition, with a constant
drive for performance and quality enhancements.
Core Competencies:
Technical Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and document embedded software architecture for
satellite user terminals.
• Develop high-quality real-time embedded, modular, reusable software for
our range of satellite user terminals.
• Manage software requirements and traceability using industry best
practices, tools, and techniques.
• Participate in the entire product lifecycle, refining product specifications,
producing innovative designs, estimating complexity/work, resolving issues,
and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Collaborate with the product team to define required user features.
• Support integration testing/QA of our user terminal with the engineering
team in Korea.
• Provide training, technical support, and incorporate feedback from test
operators.
• Work within an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary engineering team to evolve
and expand competence.
Experience - Mandatory:
• 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• 5+ years of experience in developing Embedded Linux software using C/C++.
• Integration and debugging of solutions on target hardware.
• Experience in drafting and presenting software design diagrams, state
machines, pseudocodes, etc.
• Familiarity with software development, documentation, debugging tools
(e.g., JIRA, Gerrit, Github, SVN, Jenkins).
• Strong design, debugging, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to clearly articulate problems and solutions to technical and non
technical audiences.
• Experience in various areas including embedded systems, microcontrollers,
secure bootloaders, Linux device drivers, real-time operating systems,
digital/analog interfaces, STM32 programming, and ARM targets.
Experience - Desirable:
• Previous experience with Iridium, Inmarsat, or Thuraya terminals.
• Firmware development with L2/L3 switch chips.
• Protocol interface with external routers.
• Web programming and script development.
• Experience with Asterisk, VoIP development.
• Familiarity with RF test and measurement instruments.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic/Electrical
Engineering, or similar discipline.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence
and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
