The role

Fugro's Systems Department based at our office in Wallingford are seeking an Electronics/Instrument Engineer to join the team. The team specialise in monitoring, measuring, and providing advice on renewables and oil and gas infrastructure projects in Europe and Africa.

As an Electronics/Instrument Engineer, you will need to have a fundamental understanding of computer architecture operating systems and networking principles. A knowledge of electronic and electrical principles is also essential as well as a good knowledge of oceanography. The successful candidate, after training, will be expected to take a lead on site visits, with responsibility for planning operations as well as health and safety where you will also act as a liaison.

Using the latest oceanographic equipment, on industry leading projects, you will get to work in a hands-on environment, where the ability to think on your feet and adapt to changing project needs are integral. Although you will be required to have an equipment and operations focus, project management opportunities will be available if this were an area you would like to pursue.

Knowledge of documentation structures and approval engineering process would be beneficial.

The role will require frequent ad hoc travel and working offshore, typically lasting between 5 -10 days a month.

Who we're looking for:

Essential

  • Formal electrical/electronic qualifications,
  • Good English language skills, verbal and written.
  • Excellent computer literacy, including working experience of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail, quality and safety.
  • Ability to work offshore for periods of up to 14 days, but more typically 1-7 days.
  • Practically minded and enjoy physical and mental challenges.
  • You are looking for the opportunity to use your oceanographic and engineering knowledge in a varied and interesting role.
  • You are flexible to undertake site work at short notice.

Desirable

  • A HNC or higher in Engineering, Oceanography or closely related subject
  • COMPEX Trained
  • Knowledge of intrinsically safe circuits
  • Ability to plan and supervise oceanographic survey operations including managing personnel and resources.
  • Able to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with offshore, onshore and Client personnel.
  • Offshore experience.
  • Experience working on small work boats.
  • BOSIET or GWO marine training.
  • Experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries.

Please note, you will need to pass an Offshore Medical prior to employment.
