Marine Electronic Engineer - Field Based
Our Client, a leading marine electronics company based in Kilkeel, Co Down, is seeking to hire an experienced Marine Electronics Engineer. The primary responsibility of a Marine Electronics Engineer is to conduct installations, maintenance, and repairs of safety, communications, and navigation systems on various vessels. They will also perform safety surveys in compliance with SOLAS requirements, relevant Classification societies, or MCA regulations.
Job Summary
The Marine Electronics Engineer is expected to independently undertake installations and repair services on Marine Navigational and communication systems across different vessel types.
Key Responsibility Areas
Install and commission new equipment, as well as maintain and repair existing equipment on customers’ vessels and on company premises.
Provide technical support to customers and the company’s sales and service agents.
Promote the company’s products and services.
Collaborate with the Principal Engineer and Administrator to maintain existing client relationships and develop new ones.
Conduct surveys and inspections of ship radio communications and navigational installations, provided they possess the necessary qualifications, accreditations, and experience.
Demonstrate competence with marine equipment and integrated systems in accordance with their experience and qualifications.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
Previous experience in a service industry along with a thorough knowledge of Marine Navigation and communication systems.
Demonstrated track record in customer service.
HNC/HND or equivalent in an Electronics/Electrical discipline.
Full driving licence.
Willingness to travel to other UK and Foreign locations as required.
Desirable
Experience in the installation, commissioning, and repair of VSAT Systems.
Previous employment with a marine electronics service company.
GMDSS operator’s certificate.
Radio survey experience.
BOSIET or OLF certification.
Navigation and Communications manufacturers' training courses.
Personal Attributes
Organized and focused with excellent prioritization and time management skills.
Ability to meet personal goals and collaborate effectively with other members of the engineering teams.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Flexibility and entrepreneurial mindset, with a good sense of commercial business decisions.
Technical competency, with a deep understanding of electronics engineering, marine industry regulations, and the UK maritime market.
Intrinsic Factors
This full-time role requires regular travel within the UK and overseas. Flexibility with working hours and willingness to undertake overtime is expected. There will be an element of office-based work, along with the use of display screen equipment. Security clearance may be necessary, and the role may involve working at height using harness equipment, requiring passing a working at height medical and an annual practical training course.
