We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced candidate for the role of Technical Consulting Director, EIA. This is a senior leadership role in ERM’s vibrant Onshore Renewables and Infrastructure team.
You will work on innovative projects in the renewable energy (solar, onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen, battery storage and energy networks), decarbonisation (hydrogen, CCUS, transport and technology), and mining sectors where ERM is supporting clients to deliver the low carbon energy transition. Many of our projects, like our own concept and Equinor’s H2H Saltend Blue Hydrogen project, for which we recently , are market leading.
You will work within a range of planning regimes (including NSIP/DCO, TCPA, s36 (Scotland) and DNS (Wales)) to lead the EIA and Project Management (PM) discipline through a variety of projects and deliverables that help our clients efficiently meet their objectives in a safe, environmentally and socially sustainable manner. Because our EIA and PM discipline works collaboratively with our established Planning team, you will also be involved in making sure that we deliver seamless integrated solutions that comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
In addition to technical work, you will also lead on business development with both existing and new clients and take an active role in the line management and development of more junior team members.
Key responsibilities
Foster positive relationships with key clients and stakeholders
Play a central and / or lead role in business development and bidding activities
Lead and coordinate the delivery of environmental impact assessments for projects, from project inception to post-construction monitoring
Identify and manage risks and opportunities related to assigned projects
Mentor and develop more junior EIA resources
Develop and implement strategies to improve the quality and efficiency of our EIA services
Collaborate with other disciplines and internal teams to ensure that integrated solutions are seamlessly delivered and that opportunities for additional work are maximised
Stay up-to-date with the latest research, regulatory changes, best practices and industry trends; sharing knowledge through working groups and relevant bodies
Represent ERM in industry events, conferences, and meetings, and contribute to thought leadership activities

About you
Degree qualified or equivalent in engineering, environmental sciences, business administration, or similar
Extensive experience project managing EIAs for complex projects – of which some must be Scotland-based
Experience of the consenting process, including consulting with planning authorities and the Energy Consents Unit in Scotland
Track record of business development, collaborative sales pursuits, and client service
Demonstrable thought leadership through industry publications and related forums
Chartered IEMA status (Practitioner level)
