Are you passionate about Women's Health? The Early Pregnancy and Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit (EPAU/EGAU) have an exciting opportunity for an experienced early pregnancy / gynaecology nurse to move forward into a band 6 position to cover maternity leave for 12 months. The post holder will be required to cover a 7 day a week flexible shift pattern including weekends and bank holidays. Please be aware, at present the unit working hours are Monday-Friday 0800-1800 and weekends and bank holidays 0800-12.00. However, these working hours may change in the future to improve the service. Your base will be within EPAU/EGAU at Peterborough City Hospital, but all staff are asked to support services in other departments and at other Trust sites as needed. *** Please note we are only able to accept applications from those with a live NMC registration or UK nursing students awaiting their PIN as we are unable to support OSCE at this time***Main duties of the jobWe are a friendly team of nurses, HCAs, sonographers, consultants/doctors, administrative staff and counsellors , providing a high standard of individualised patient care to ladies in early pregnancy and with emergency gynaecology related concerns. We are looking for a dynamic band 6 registered nurse who is a great communicator, non-judgemental, passionate about women's health and can work using their own initiative. The termination of pregnancy service runs from this area, so staff should be pro-choice. It would also be preferable that you have previous experience working in gynaecology and/ or pre-assessment.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities
All women coming into the Unit, have the potential to need urgent intervention, or have a life-threatening condition. You will need to recognise emergencies in the speciality and take action, as well as lead others to do the same EGAU incorporates patients with:- emergency gynaecology problems- pregnancy related problems under 16 weeks gestation including a telephone triage service and hyperemesis out-patient service- unplanned pregnancy considering termination of pregnancy (including contraception, sexual health and HIV testing) Work as a specialist practitioner to ensure the service is planned, monitored, delivered and evaluated in accordance with evidence based practice Provide clinical leadership and be responsible for the Unit, in the absence of the Lead Nurse. This includes taking charge of the Unit, co-ordinating, delegating and then continually re-assessing the workload and priorities of each section of the department, whilst supporting/managing the junior clinical and administrative staff Work together with the Lead Nurse and AGM in developing and implementing the operational business plans for EGAU

Clinical experience working within gynaecology, abortion or early pregnancy services Minimum 2 years post qualification and experience in senior nurse role Experience in implementing clinical pathways for emergency gynaecology/early pregnancy/termination patients Experience of managing own case load or nurse-led clinics
