As part of the SEND and Inclusion service, our Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is a key player in delivering the Local Authority's wellbeing and Special Educational Needs and Disability strategies. Based in Worthing and Horsham, the EPS oversees the Portage Service and Mental Health Support Teams in schools, where Educational Psychologists play pivotal roles.

About the Role: As an Educational Psychologist, you'll provide essential services such as advice, consultation, assessment, training, research, and evaluation. Your work will be focused on children with additional needs and difficulties within an Area of the County.

Job Details:

  • Grade: Soulbury Scale A2-7, Educational Psychologist, plus up to 3 SPA points as appropriate.
  • Directorate Group: Children, Young People & Learning.
  • Location: Horsham or Worthing.

Required Experience and Skills:

Key Skills:

  • Experience applying psychology with children and young people.
  • Strong work ethic, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to self-reflect, evaluate performance, and manage time effectively.
  • Passion, drive, and enthusiasm to work within a strong team ethos.

Qualifications and/or Experience:

  • Honours Degree in Psychology or equivalent qualification.
  • Substantial relevant experience in education or children's services.
  • Completed postgraduate professional training as an educational psychologist.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in alignment with the aims of the Special Educational Needs and Intervention Business plan.
  • Support schools, including special schools, units, and special needs departments of mainstream schools.
  • Assist and advise the Authority in meeting Education legislation requirements.
  • Represent the Educational Psychology Service at multi-disciplinary or inter-service teams.
  • Contribute to training for teachers and other professionals.
  • Supervise the fieldwork of students attending courses on educational psychology.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the level/status of the post as required.
