Director of Strategy & Regulation
Applications are invited for the role of Director of Strategy &
Regulation for SONI (System Operator for Northern Ireland). The role
reports to the SONI Chief Executive.
As the System Operator for Northern Ireland, SONI Ltd, plays a critical
role through planning the development and the safe operation of the electricity
transmission grid in Northern Ireland. The transmission grid brings power from
where it is generated to where it is needed, supplying large industrial
customers and the distribution networks, which in turn supply homes, farms and
businesses across the island.
As part of the EirGrid Group, SONI is at the forefront of innovation in
the energy industry, enabling the transition towards a low-carbon,
technology-enabled smart future. The Group also operates the wholesale Single
Electricity Market (SEM) and the East West Interconnector, a high voltage link
between Ireland and Great Britain.
SONI is regulated by the Utility Regulator (UR) in Northern Ireland.
Based on a recent licence change requiring board, managerial and resource
separation from the parent company, SONI has initiated a significant
transformational programme of work to implement its future organisational
structure and operating model, whilst it continues to support the
implementation of the Northern Ireland Energy Strategy and Climate Action
Plan.
This is an exciting time to join SONI in this new role. As a member of
the executive leadership team, the Director of Strategy & Regulation will be
responsible for providing strategic and regulatory leadership to SONI in
respect of business planning and the development, implementation and oversight
of SONI’s strategy while securing a cost-effective Price Control enabling SONI
to deliver on its business objectives. This role will also have responsibility for
SONI’s Regulatory function, including setting regulatory strategy and
principles to secure regulated income streams that will support the operational
requirements of the business.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced senior manager
with a track record of reporting to Executive or Board level in a complex
energy or other utility environment.
A
deep understanding of economic regulation and demonstrable
experience of working and delivering in a regulatory business model is also
essential.
