UUSC is a human rights organization with the belief in the inherent worth and dignity of all people. Our unique eye-to-eye partnership model centers and lifts up the experience and wisdom of those most affected by human rights struggles, and we have partnered with grassroots groups around the globe to fight for economic justice, protect human rights at risk, and advance environmental justice. We are seeking a seasoned organizing and engagement strategist who shares our passion for collaboration, innovation, and advocacy on the global stage. We welcome applicants who want to help us build justice and create lasting change in the world.Specifically, we’re seeking someone who can:Work in close partnership with program staff to identify advocacy opportunities and craft campaigns that leverage our unique strengths and are grounded in community partnership.Manage the broad array of strategies and tactics deployed by the team in support of their goals including community organizing, earned media outreach, online advocacy, digital storytelling, and thought leadership from program staff and community partners.Help weave together activist education, outreach, advocacy, research, communications, digital, and fundraising strategies into a cohesive and tightly coordinated whole.Develop and oversee implementation of a strategy to help build leadership among members, activists, congregations, and allied organizations to advance core social justice issues of common interest.Motivate, support and help develop great staff.Oversee advocacy, organizing and communications team processes and oversee the team’s annual budget.QUALIFICATIONSThis is a senior management position and we are looking for leaders who are ready to be part of a complex, dynamic, and values-driven body of work. Because this position leads our advocacy and communications strategies, we need someone who has:Demonstrated background in strategic community organizing and engagement.8-10 years of advocacy experience and at least three years of management experience.History of developing advocacy efforts that combine communications strategies (including comprehensive media relations and digital), storytelling, grassroots, grasstops, and community-based components.A strong racial and social justice lens and enthusiasm about working for a values-driven organization .Familiarity with and passion for issues related to economic justice, rights at risk, and environmental justice.Proven ability to build great teams.Well-honed skill for identifying clear goals and accompanying strategies and tactics that drive towards a defined “win” and an ability to build in evaluation elements that both measure impact and inform future work.Significant experience directing robust advocacy campaigns, including managing campaign staff and campaign budgets.Understanding, connecting with and organizing coalitions.A curious, collaborative, strategic mindset.Non-Discrimination and Equal Employment Opportunity: UUSC is highly committed to the principle of equal opportunity in employment.
