Diagnostic Radiographer (CT/MRI based)

We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic radiographers for a permanent diagnostic rotational CT/MRI radiographer post (band 6) for our Cavendish Square site in Central London. The successful candidate would ideally have postgraduate experience in cross-sectional imaging and some experience of imaging oncology patients, although training can be provided if required. X-ray skills are desirable as occasionally we have patients who require x-ray imaging, however the radiographer team are based within CT and MRI and attend x-ray only when required which is relatively infrequent. Radiographers with a PGC in mammography are also welcome to apply however this is not essential. The successful candidate should be a highly motivated radiographer with good communication skills, who is keen to contribute positively to the imaging service at Cavendish Square. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and show a keen interest in the future of their profession and the diagnostic imaging services. They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging. If you meet the requirements above, we would love to hear from you!Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach as the department will operate between 7.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am -6pm.
The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of an efficient and effective diagnostic imaging service. The post holder will liaise with the clinicians caring for a patient, other departments and other departmental staff within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be required to rotate between CT, MRI, x-ray and (where appropriate) mammography. While working within an oncological environment the post holder will be required to interact directly with terminally ill patients as well as being exposed at times to distressing and emotional situations. Patient presentation will include the unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, distressed, disorientated, and those with physical and mental disabilities. The post holder will have responsibility for the timely, efficient and courteous provision of imaging services within the available resources. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to the department and service and will be required to be flexible and work at our other locations as and when required including but not limited to RMH Cavendish Square and our Chelsea and Sutton sites. To ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care. To perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017. To follow the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines, local rules, and the departmental standard operating procedures. To comply with accurate patient identification procedures To ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner. To give advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations. To be aware of Radiation safety when undertaking CT examinations and ensure the safety and protection of patients, staff and carers are adhered to. To perform standard equipment Quality Assurance (QA), record results accurately and alert the Superintendent radiographer/medical physics as required. To assess specific communication needs of individual patients and to ascertain from the patient, patients guardian or the referrer, patients suitability and consent for receipt of intravenous contrast media. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the CT checklist impossible and to implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained.
