We are currently looking foraDesign Engineerto join agrowing engineering team who design, manufacture and install monorail and conveyor systems.
Most industry specific training will be done on the job but applicants will already possess Engineering CAD skills, working with AutoCAD and Inventor. You will be capable of converting a design brief into a layout drawing (2D) for presentation to customers and incorporating building and machinery drawings into these layouts; able to carry out component and assembly design in 3D based on verbal brief or existing 2D drawings; able to design new products from a project design brief; able to develop improvements in (a) our design department systems/processes for efficient manufacture and installation and (b) existing product designs for ease and cost of manufacture. It is also desirable to be able to calculate weight loadings for assessment of structural support steelwork and to design structural steelwork based on the calculated loadings.

Where the role is based:

As the Design Engineer interacts closely with the engineering and sales teams, the role is predominantly based at our factory. Some flexible working will be considered, depending on experience, particularly as the role involves some working from customers laundry sites throughout the UK and Europe, conducting pre & post-sales surveys in order to develop solutions to customer problems and to facilitate accurate engineering designs. Applicants must therefore have a full UK driving licence and be able to travel and work away from base, which may include weekends.

Requirements:

The laundry industry is niche so whilst laundry experience would be desirable, we do encourage applicants with varying degrees of design engineering experience from different sectors, for example reconfiguring factory layouts, conveyor system installations, plant & component design, steelwork installations.

Initially the Design Engineer will not have direct reports but will have use of additional design resource in-house or subcontractors; it is anticipated that the Design Engineer will manage a design team as the business grows. Personal attributes useful for the role are
