Design Engineer

JBT has a great opportunity for a Design Engineer to join the Proseal team in Cheshire. As our Design Engineer, you will provide solutions for all aspects of machinery sales, design, manufacture, and commissioning for bespoke packaging machinery.

You will work with a team of 6 designers to specify, develop and commission tooling and machinery and you will report to our Design Operations Manager Chris, who focuses on mentoring the team. Once you have completed your training within the design operations team, there may be opportunities for you to further your design career and progress into design development or design solutions.

As a Design Engineer, you will predominantly be based in the office, but you will also communicate with other departments on the shop floor; site visits will also happen on occasions.

A day in the life of our Design Engineer ...

• Design process and development for our products, work together with the sales team to confirm correct spec and provide drawings to assist with the quotation process, working out project costs and parts prices


• Create customer specific machine designs and drawing modifications and amendments for parts and assemblies


• Our Design Engineer uses 3D and 2D CAD software sometimes exchange drawings between the two systems


• Take customer ideas and prepare drawings and 3D models for manufacture, including all dimensions, tolerances, finishes and notes


• Work with our manufacturing department to ensure parts are produced on-time, with our control systems team to ensure machines are designed and built with maximum efficiency and minimum disruption


• Ensure that machine safety is correct and complies with all relevant legislation


• You will prepare the BOMs with the designs and documentation for all part numbers, and drawing references and create reports for potential pitfalls within the production process


• We want our Design Engineer to identify opportunities to reduce costs in the design, materials used and manufacturing techniques and provide feedback for continuous improvement of products and services

What would we like to see on your CV ...

• An Engineering Qualification either an ONC/HNC or HND


• Minimum of 2 years' experience (but we will take someone with less or more) we are more focused on finding a Mechanically trained Designer wanting to develop


• Understanding of mechanical and/or Electrical installation


• AutoCAD 2D design experience and good understanding of 3D Cad design


• You will be required to work solo and as part of a team and as mentioned above OK to work overtime when needed
