One of our clients, who is a leading regional contractor with a turnover of over a �100 million as a group are looking to appoint an Design Coordinator to work on projects in the West Midlands.

Their schemes range in value from �5-15m with schemes averaging around the �10m mark. Their projects vary in market sector and include: Education, Healthcare, Sports & leisure, commercial & heritage. As a business they have an excellent reputation with their clients for excellent delivery.

The Design Coordinator Role

The position incorporates the following areas of responsibility:

  • Coordinating with the design team.
  • Coordinating the design process using his/her commercial, contractual, programme/time awareness and technical expertise.
  • Supporting, understanding, and advising the client as to the requirements and his/her obligations in the development of a building design.
  • Ensuring the design process recognises current legislation, standards and codes of practice, where appropriate.
  • Ensuring design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales.
  • Striving to eliminate health and safety risks during construction.

The Design Coordinator you will coordinate the design process from pre-construction through to final completion, dealing with sub-contractors and on-site issues as well as attending meetings and managing the progress of the project. The ability to drive the process and ensure that the project is cost and time effective will be key.

The Ideal Design Coordinator will possess the following:

  • Ideally main contractor construction background, someone from an Architect consultant background will also be considered
  • Ability to communicate with a range of people at all levels, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage all aspects of the design
  • Analytical problem solver
  • Ability to make reasoned and informed judgements and decisions
  • Knowledge of current building regulations
