We are looking for a Deputy Regional Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist to support our services in the Northwest and Wales.
Please be aware that the base of this role is at Cygnet Delfryn Lodge.
Job Summary
The Deputy Regional Medical Director will cover Cygnet St Augustine's, Cygnet Nield House, Cygnet Delfryn House and Lodge, Cygnet Lodge Salford, Cygnet Fountains and Cygnet Kenny House (due to open). As Consultant Psychiatrist, the successful candidate will be responsible for the care of up to 24 female patients in an inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service at Cygnet Delfryn Lodge.
The Deputy Regional Medical Director will support the Regional Medical Director in playing a lead role in the company achieving its objectives. All Directors including Deputies are expected to work as part of an integrated team and take responsibility for strategic and group issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility.
The primary focus of this role is to support the Regional Medical Director in providing leadership and management of professional issues associated with the medical workforce and the services provided by doctors and associated clinicians.
This includes all relevant operational developmental and strategic matters.
Supporting the Regional Medical Director in leading the effective management of medical staff and ensuring that they deliver effective, safe and high quality care to individuals in our care.
Key Responsibilities
With the regional nursing, psychology and occupational directors, to oversee delivery of high quality and high value care for patients and residents.
To promote organisational efficiency and clinical productivity.
Quality improvement is a key part of the Deputy Regional Medical Director’s remit.
To support the company to achieve high standards of clinical practice and governance. Ensuring policies are in place to protect and safeguard vulnerable groups, manage medicines and controlled drugs safely and effectively, and maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
Support the Regional Medical Director in ensuring service and policy development keeps pace with statutory requirements, championing national health policy, focusing on effective prevention and early intervention and working with stakeholders to develop new integrated care models.
Help lead and promote a culture in which all staff regularly evaluate the quality of patient and resident care and achieve high standards, while feeling confident and safe to challenge and raise concerns on practice that deviates from this.
Ensure there is the right and appropriate skill mix in the medical workforce.
Key Skills & Experience
Outstanding leadership and management skills
Excellent knowledge of the professional, educational and statutory requirements of medical staff
A deep understanding of clinical and corporate governance frameworks
An intimate knowledge of current issues facing the healthcare and social care environments, including clinical, performance and operational challenges.
Significant post qualification experience
A breadth of experience in leading and managing staff
A wide experience of medical audit/research and development processes and practice
Significant experience in strategy and policy development
Very notable experience in workforce planning and role redesign
Very good experience in developing a quality improvement programme within a multi-professional environment
Proven experience in managing and implementing change
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
A very good ability to demonstrate high emotional intelligence to ally outstanding leadership skills, including ability to bring together multiple stakeholders and those with diverse views to improve patient and resident care
Dedicated to managing self, personal and professional development and reflection, eg with recent 360-feedback or multi-source feedback
Eminently able to resolve conflict and overcome resistance
Be extremely innovative with high medical credibility
Demonstrate report writing and presentation skills of a high order
Main duties and Responsibilities
The following list of duties is for guidance and is not exhaustive. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Regional Medical Director with the following:
Provide visible leadership for medical staff on both professional and managerial issues within the Region
Support the Medical Directors in the Region in the monitoring of medical staff performance within their hospitals
Support the Region’s Medical Directors in the monitoring of quality and appropriateness of medical care
Promote a culture committed to learning from complaints, incidents and audits
Managerial and clinical supervision every 3 months of all Medical Directors within the Region
One to one weekly catch ups with each of the Medical Directors in the Region
Fully support the Medical Directors in the Region to ensure medical staff undertake their duties in line with statutory and mandatory training requirements for doctors.
Support the Medical Directors in the Region to ensure that staff work within the framework of Company policies and procedures.
Ensure regular communication and meetings with all medical staff within the Region
Support the recruitment of medical staff in the Region to provide a high quality clinical service
Support the Medical Directors in the Region to provide strategies which help with retention of medical staff
Support the Medical Directors in the Region to ensure
medical staff are involved in hospital clinical governance
Support the Region’s Medical Directors in the management of out of hours on-call services to ensure well organized reliable and services that meet quality standards
Work closely with the Region’s Operations Director, including regular catch ups
Weekly visits to sites within the Region where necessary, to include providing site reports to the Regional Medical Director
Be actively involved when necessary in disciplinary matters involving medical staff
Support the Medical Directors and Unit Managers throughout the Region in matters relating to inspections by statutory agencies
Support the Medical Directors to chair or co-chair their Local Clinical Governance meetings
Attend the monthly Regional Medical Directors meetings.
Attend the Cygnet Group Medical Directors meetings (held twice per year)
Attend the Cygnet Group’ s Quarterly Clinical Directorate meetings
Attend the monthly Regional Operational Governance meetings
Support the Region’s Medical Directors in ensuring there is a process in place for cross cover arrangements between consultants and/or provision for continuous medical cover for the hospital
Participate in the 1:7 Second On call rota
