ESHT are seeking a Deputy Chief Nurse(Quality and Policy) who has a passion for excellence and want to make a difference in a challenging and complex environment. You will build on the strong foundations created by the current Chief Nurse in partnership with the senior nurses. The Deputy Chief Nurse is one of two Deputy Chief Nurse roles who support the Chief Nurse at a strategic and operational level. The roles will work in partnership and be able to cover each other's portfolios. The portfolios are Quality & Policy and Workforce & Professional Standards. The vacant position is to cover the Quality & Policy portfolio based at Conquest Hospital, Hastings. You will be a confident credible, effective, visible nursing leader who is driven by challenges and demonstrate personal resilience working in a fast moving and changing care environment.Main duties of the jobYou will provide visible professional nursing, and AHP clinical leadership at the Trust and provide professional guidance to achieving the implementation of the Trusts vision and key priorities. You will have a demonstrable experience of translating strategy into practice at a senior level in a large NHS provider organisation a track record of partnership working with NHS England and others a sound working knowledge of service provision with an understanding of integrated community services experience of quality and safety, workforce, financial and change management, lead by example, motivating and empowering teams to ensure consistently high standards of care and experience are delivered. We are looking for authentic and tenacious senior nursing leaders, with the enthusiasm and drive to support delivery of the ambitious Trust priorities and transformation programmes within the Chief Nurse portfolio with a backdrop of financial and operational challenges. Registered and practising nurse with current live NMC registration. Masters' Degree in relevant subject Post graduate management qualification. Recognised leadership course Evidence of continuing personal and professional development to doctorate equivalent level.

ExperienceEssential
Senior Nursing Experience of managing an operational team, targets and budgets. Experience of implementing and leading significant change projects at corporate level in a multi-site organisation. Experience of multi-agency working. Experience of working with patients/service users to improve their experience. Experience in implementing safety/quality initiatives and service improvement projects. Experience in setting objectives and performance management and holding staff to account. Experience of effective workforce planning, and can demonstrate an understanding of establishment and acuity and dependency tools. Experience in providing advice on complex professional issues to the executive/non- executive team and all other levels of the organisation, external agencies and stakeholders e.g. NHSE, ICS etc. Experience of producing high quality reports in a timely manner for consideration at senior level internally and externally. Experience in the production and implementation of Trust wide policies that have taken into account national and local policy Experience of producing and presenting papers for and at Trust Board and other external groups or committees. Experience of offering senior Trust guidance on an on-call basis. Experience of carrying out complex internal investigations and production of action plans Experience of effective complaints management, with analysis and implementation of change.

Skills / Knowledge / AbilitiesEssential
Advanced knowledge of nursing and midwifery policy and practice and NMC standards and requirements. Detailed knowledge of safeguarding legislation and current agendas/drivers Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of government health and reform agenda with an ability to translate into local Trust policy. Knowledge of current drivers for nursing practice, patient experience and Trust strategy. Knowledge of how to effectively lead and motivate people particularly in relation to change and improving the patient experience. Knowledge of current DH, NHS Improvement and ICS reporting requirements relevant to quality and the nursing agenda. Detailed knowledge of the CQC role and process at all levels of the organisation. Knowledge of the role of regulatory bodies impacting on role e.g. NHSI/E, NMC. Detailed knowledge of the governance process. Develop professional credibility with staff - in particular senior clinical and managerial staff in allocated directorates. Ability to develop and write clear and concise policy, guidance, board and other reports.
