Position: Assistant Depot Manager
Location:

Line Reporting Manager:
Depot Manager and Company Wide Directors
Principle Duties and Accountabilities:
~ Responsible for the management of all operations and administration performed at your Depot (including matters of health and safety, staff discipline and welfare and vehicle fleet maintenance
Roles and Responsibilities:
Deputising for the Depot manager to cover for absences and holidays.
Oversee the efficient running of the depot daily, ensuring head office is aware of all movement of vehicles.
Manage the delivery of planned and reactive services to industrial, commercial, and domestic customers in accordance with established quality procedures.
Receive service requests verbally or electronically, providing advice and prices to customers, and coordinate the relevant resources to meet agreed timescales.
Plan and schedule labour, vehicles and plant on a daily and weekly basis allowing flexibility to accommodate emergency responses / changes to the works programme.
Ensure H&S and environmental compliance of operations including the preparation of risk and method statements, and the inspection and maintenance of plant.
Use standard and in-house software for a range of tasks including job management and costing as well as reporting and administration.
Manage day to day issues arising from the supervision of field teams including providing advice and instructions, attendance and timekeeping, sickness and other absence, authorisation of overtime, coaching, welfare, disciplinary matters, and the identification of training needs.
Ensure all paperwork is completed correctly by the drivers and submitted on time.
Always perform tasks in accordance with H&S and statutory procedures having regard also to the Companys quality management system.
Health & Safety:
Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act (#####) states the general duties of employees at work.
It shall be the duty of every employee while at work to:
(a) To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work; and
(b) as regards any duty or requirement imposed on their employer or any other person by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, to co-operate with them so far as is necessary to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with
The Depot Manager Health and Safety Responsibilities are:
To understand and implement the company health and safety policy.
To ensure and monitor the health, safety and welfare of all staff/sub-contractors working under their remit.
To influence and promote a positive health, safety culture within the organisation and lead by example.
To carry out at least 1 x IMS527 Senior Manager tour of crews and 1 x Weekly SHEF report for the depot/offices/workshop. Copies of these are to be submitted to their respective SHEQW representative by the end of each month.
To investigate all occupational accidents and incidents using the company 2, 2, 2 process and produce detailed reports with supplementary evidence with support from the SHEQW department.
To report all health, safety and environmental incidents to relevant persons and your SHEQW representative upon notification or at least within 2 hours
To ensure safety briefings/TBTs are delivered and signed registers are completed.
To ensure awareness of the company fire and first aid arrangements, and emergency evacuation procedure
Qualifications / Competency:
Extensive experience within a position of similar responsibility
People and health & safety management in a similar environment
Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational / service environment.
Profit & Loss experience
Local geographical knowledge
Good transport / logistics / scheduling experience
Waste industry knowledge including relevant laws.
Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation environment
Strong Commercial background
Experience of operational line management
Experienced in people management.
Experience of managing multi-shift environment
