Role: Decontamination Manager



Department: Sterile Services (Estates & Facilities)



Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, SE18 4QH



Pay: Band 8a - £33ph



Hours: 9am – 5pm, Monday - Friday



Contract: From 14/02/24 – Initially for 3 months with potential to be extended.





Main duties & responsibilities:




  • To ensure a sterile supplies service is provided within the agreed financial service and quality targets set by the Trust and to meet external ISO quality standards.

  • Provide professional leadership and advice to staff working in the Trust on all areas of decontamination and develop relationships within client stakeholder groups.

  • Ensure consistency of approach, share good practice, and develop contingency plans as required.

  • Advise Clinical Services and the Decontamination Action Group of any implications relating to decontamination that need to be built into the business planning process.

  • Review and monitor standard operating procedures, department, and other procedural documents to ensure they continue to deliver optimum, cost effective, quality-assured services.

  • Develop and implement changes in working practices as required.

  • Ensure all daily tests and requirements are met and documented to meet European Standards and Legislation and that all decontamination records are stored and maintained for future requirements.

  • Establish and implement an effective and robust communication strategy with any future service provided and set up performance management arrangements.

  • Manage the internal communications to ensure the Directorates across the Trust are kept fully appraised of the developments of the decontamination programme and the impact that any organisational change will have on service delivery.

  • Act as the Trust Advisor on all Sterile Services issues.

  • Develop and implement effective working relationships with all clinical departments to ensure good liaison on decontamination issues and audit.

  • Liaise with other related disciplines on Sterile Services to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated approach is adopted; key departments will include Microbiology and Infection

  • Control, Health and Safety, Clinical Risk, Estates and Facilities & Procurement.

  • Ensure that all clinical and non-clinical risks associated with both the technical operations of the service and those faced by staff in the departments are effectively managed.

  • Ensure the Trust is kept up to date with the latest guidance and recommendations on Sterile Services.

  • Monitor and report on all Sterile Services incidents working closely with the Trust Decontamination Manager.

  • Provide regular reports to the Trust Equipment and Medical Devices Decontamination Group (TEMDDG) on areas requiring improvement and to identify any risks related to decontamination in liaison with Clinical Risk and Health and Safety.

  • Assess and provide other complex specialist advice to the Trust Decontamination Manager on the use and decontamination of equipment used on high-risk patients including Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).

  • Conduct retrospective audits when required.

  • Management responsibility for SSD budget ensuring all financial and operational targets are met.

  • Identify commercial opportunities for sterile services and negotiate contracts with external customers both within and without the NHS.

  • Assist in the tendering process and manage purchase of Sterile Services equipment.

  • To be responsible for the management of staff working within Sterile Services including planning, recruitment, training and developing staff. Conduct appraisals and deal with conduct issues in accordance with Trust policy.





Requirements:




  • Membership of the Institute of Decontamination Sciences or equivalent relevant professional body.

  • Significant experience of managing or supervising the production of medical devices within a Sterile Services Environment.

  • Experience of quality systems and auditing procedures.

  • Budgetary control experience essential.
