You will work as part of the DB Strategic Development team to release new business value through innovative technological solutions which will apply modern data techniques, AI and state-of-the-art software - all developed in-house.You will be a seasoned frontend engineer who is comfortable in researching, designing, building and testing frontend systems, and will be either eager to learn more about backend systems and data science, or already have experience in these areas as well. Without a dedicated design team behind you, you will be required to be creative and up to the challenge of converting users needs into functional code. This role has the potential to become very broad, and you should be keen to develop an understanding of DB and the wider business of Just Group at a deep level.This role will initially be tasked with supporting the in-flight development of the DB Data Platform. Future releases will require a wealth of innovation around frontend systems to unlock the full business value of the platform and to incorporate developments in AI and Machine Learning from the Data Science team. This will be the primary objective of this role.Job Role AccountabilitiesDevelop high-quality bespoke data applications, using appropriate, industry-standard tools, technologies and languages, in alignment with the organisational target architecture.Become an expert and eventually owner of existing frontend systems within DB.Innovate with frontend technology to make user interactions with the DB data platform effortless.Work with stakeholders in the business to understand user requirements and needs and incorporate these into the user experience.Use feedback from users to iteratively improve and perfect frontend systems.Understand and support the development of backend systems as required.Work with the data science and other engineering teams to seamlessly integrate AI and Machine Learning into frontend systems.Apply software engineering best-practice throughout your work (e.g. testing, documentation, source control, versioning)Ensure all development is in line with the corporate change control policies ensuring the appropriate governance and control is applied at all times. Ensuring compliance with group EUC policy.Essential for the roleVaried and significant experiences in engineering roles, with a focus on frontend and UI/UXEducated to degree level, or equivalentFormal Training or experience in UI/UX DesignFull stack engineering experienceYou have worked with our existing tech stack: React/Next.js, TypeScript, Python, SQLIndustry experience in DB Pensions or the Insurance/Financial Services industry (but don’t be put of applying if you don’t have this)Skills and KnowledgeExperienced Frontend and UI/UX developer, with knowledge or expertise in React and frameworks such as Next.jsComfortable designing and building UI solutions to business problems (from zero!).An aptitude for systems development and the ability to understand and manage complex concepts.Highly analytical mindset with problem solving attitude and a keenness to learn about the business.A good communicator who can get to the bottom of users needs and requirements and who cares deeply about delivering an optimal experience, in line with business objectivesExperienceYou have built applications that allow people to do their jobs efficiently and effectively.You have designed and built frontend UI that uses AI and ML (delivered by data science teams) under-the-hood.You have performed user-experience research (at any scale!) and are able to convert this into functional interfaces.Experience in leading solution development and assisting team members with task delivery.Experience with Cloud technologies (e.g. Azure Kubernetes) would be beneficial.Why Just?We are committed to building a more sustainable business and have publicly committed to reduce our scope 3 emissions to Net Zero by 2050 and our scope 1 and 2 emissions to Net Zero by 2025.
