Due to the continued expansion of our Critical Infrastructures division, including our award winning data centre design and build team, we have an exciting career opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Engineering Professional with Data Centre and Critical Infrastructure Experience.
Sudlows work throughout the UK and have a growing portfolio of clients globally. We have over 200 staff and have achieved recent growth with ongoing expansion plans. The successful candidate will be a valued member of one our key teams within the business.
To support current growth, this position will be based from head office in Manchester but will require travel as required on a project basis.
Role Purpose
The Data Centre Design Engineer would take a leading role as part of the Data Centre team as a specialist in Data Centre Engineering, supporting all disciplines around Data Centre projects and co-ordinating the production of data centre audits, proposals and design deliverables.
Sudlows Data Centre Design team work closely with clients throughout the lifecycle of a data centre project and therefore the Data Centre Designer is required to have a good level of understanding and experience allowing them to produce quality proposals, undertake facility audits, and develop designs as required to meet the requirements of the customer. The successful candidate will have experience in the industry to allow them to support the client in determining the best way to progress a project or requirement.
As part of project delivery, the data centre design engineer will continue to support the customer and client team as a single point of contact for the design deliverables of a project, working closely with the appointed Sudlows project manager to deliver high quality, award winning projects.
Personal Specification
The suitable candidate will have a strong experience in Data Centres and Critical Environments and will ideally be a qualified engineer with a bias towards either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Separate from a professional engineering bias, you will have a good understanding of all data centre technologies including; Critical LV Switchgear arrangements, UPS systems, standby generation, critical cooling systems inc. chilled water, fire suppression, control and monitoring systems (e.g. BMS, PMS and EMS etc).
The suitable candidate will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team as required for the delivery of a project. You will also be able to take a leadership role where a team is required for the technical delivery of the works.
You will be a good communicator, able to establish productive, professional relationships with key personnel both internally and externally. You will also have understanding and experience of working with Data Centre standards such as Uptime Institute, BS EN 50600 and TIA-942.
The suitable candidate will be capable of undertaking audits of smaller data centre environments independently, commenting on elements such as Resilience, Reliability, Sustainability, Energy Efficiency, Maintainability, and Compliance with Relevant Data Centre Standards, and will be able to manage and co-ordinate a small team with the production of audits of larger environments.
The suitable candidate will be fully proficient with typical office software e.g MS Office (Word/Excel/Powerpoint) and a basic understanding of AutoCAD / Revit and BIM would be preferred although not essential.
Although experience of all the above is preferable, Sudlows are committed to supporting the development of all our engineering team and therefore if additional support is required for some of the above, this can be considered subject to further discussion.
