Job Title: Data Centre Engineer - Team Leader
Location: Acton, London
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £38,000-£43,000
We have a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Data Centre Team Leader to join client’s ever-growing team. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in managing and supporting our client's Data Centre cabling infrastructure, server and network hardware environment, and physical security controls. Reporting directly to the Local Data Centre Manager, you will lead a team of 4+ local DC operations engineers, overseeing the coordination and management of day-to-day activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a team of four DC Engineers.
Coordinate Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC) work and Business As Usual (BAU) activities.
Build equipment racks, perform copper and fibre patching, SFP module installations, and complete hardware installations for new server deployments.
Conduct connectivity testing for all installations (end-device patching).
Assist in routine changes using IDRAC/MGMT port, including IP configurations, gateway settings, ports, etc.
Respond to break/fix incidents and troubleshoot and diagnose hardware problems.
Perform daily data centre health checks and walkthroughs, reporting any findings to technical support.
Manage asset disposal processes and maintain records of cabling materials, capacity, and inventory.
Monitor data centre support queues and escalate issues as needed.
Maintain and update inventory of data centre spares and conduct IT asset management.
Shift Pattern / Working Hours:
Work a split rotated shift of 06:00 to 15:00 and 14:00 to 23:00, Monday to Friday.
Support 24/7 operations and be available for special projects and BAU activities as needed.
What we are looking for:
Essential:
Experience working in a banking IT environment.
Experience in Data Centre Moves, Adds, and Changes (IT Hardware deployment).
Thorough knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable types (FTP, UTP & Optical Fibre).
Excellent MS Office Suite experience (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
Self-starter with excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
Expert knowledge of Asset Management and Ticketing Systems.
Ability to lead, supervise, and mentor a team.
Experience in complex change management and service delivery processes.
COMPTIA Server+ and COMPTIA Network+ certifications.
Preferred but not Essential:
Previous training/qualifications within the Information Technology field.
BICSI Technician Training.
Certified Data Centre Technician Professional (CDCTP®).
