We have a fantastic opportunity for
a Credit Risk Underwriter
at our London Office. The Credit Risk Underwriter
will work within the Credit Sanctioning department withresponsibility for underwriting commercial real estate proposals forpresentation to Head of Credit Sanctioning and Credit Sanctioning Committee.This role which is within the Credit Sanctioning Team will include reviewingproposals received from the CPF team assessing their adherence to policy andreviewing their merit against the Bank’s strategy, the risks and mitigants.Concurrent responsibilities to include deputising for Senior Credit RiskUnderwriting Manager and Head of Credit Sanctioning and initiating enhancementsin the application process.
Key Responsibilities

Key for this role is toassess both new to bank proposals and existing facilities, on a case-by-casebasis researching customer entities, analysis of the property, tenant covenantstrength, cashflow, reviewing the ownership structure, where these include bothonshore and offshore customers and to understand their specific experience inrelation to the application. Assessing the appropriateness of the securitypackage, including the legal documentation proposed ensuring the Bank isadequately protected.

Ultimately, newapplication proposals to be within mandate as set out in the DelegatedAuthorities framework, with Credit papers to be written to a high standard andin a timely manner, resulting in recommendations to be made to Senior CreditRisk Underwriting Manager and Head of Credit Sanctioning, before progressing tothe sanctioning forums.

Support period reviews of the application processtools and forms, together with associated policies to ensure fit for purposeand aligned to company strategy.

Adopt an approach of continuous improvement,improving outdated structures and implementing processes and procedures toimprove operational efficiency and resilience.
Qualifications & Experience
·
The role holder will beexpected to have extensive experience and understanding of theLondon/South-East property market. Whilst the experience should focus on theresidential portfolio market sector, aligned to current bank appetite, it isexpected that the role holder has additional underwriting experience and solid understandingof the commercial sector (mixed use properties, serviced apartments, hotels,offices, student accommodation, retail parks, warehousing and developmentfinance). This is also key given the current spread of financing facilitiesheld and reflective of likely proposed changes to strategy. An understanding ofwider UK regional property markets would be advantageous.

Detailed working knowledge of underwritingrequirements including the ability to demonstrate assessing risks and mitigantsand understanding the different real estate sectors, geographical variations.

Knowledge of the suite of security documentsincluded in real estate financing in order to ensure the Bank is adequatelyprotected in financing arrangements.

Ability to demonstrate the impact of economicchanges on real estate financing, including an understanding of the interestenvironment and economic drivers.

Ability to understand financial statements andaccounts in order to forge a recommendation on the covenant strength of atenant.
Knowledge & Skills
·
A good working knowledge of the commercial mortgagesector.
·
Detailed working understanding of deal execution toinclude a good level of understanding of loan agreements and supportingdocuments such as guarantees, inter-creditor agreements, legal charges, reportson title, environmental reports, etc.Itwould be advantageous for the successful candidate to have had experience ofdeal executions in a real estate lending environment.

Good organisation, presentation and analyticalskills, with ability to accurately collate credit papers for submission to
Senior Credit Risk Underwriting Manager andHead of Credit Sanctioning
and ability to address specific questionsraised by senior management concerning the details of a transaction.

IT literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Officepackages, particularly Excel and Word
·
Ability to prioritise effectively and work underyour own initiative, under pressure and working to potentially tight deadlines.
