What is the opportunity?
The Risk Management Department at Mizuho International is responsible for delivering an independent assessment of the risks taken across all the trading and origination activities of the Company, and the revenue generated in relation to these risks. It is also responsible for implementing a risk management framework consistent with the Company's risk appetite and capacity of resources, in agreement with the Company's Board and Mizuho Securities. The department is led by the Chief Risk Officer and is made up of the following teams:
Market Risk Management
Credit Risk Management
Operational Risk Management
Regulatory & Liquidity Risk Management
Model Risk Management
Risk Analytics
Risk Reporting
What will you be doing?
• Primary credit risk management responsibilities for MHI hedge fund clients
• Dealing with all new business requests in a timely manner. This would include: liaising with Business and determining the suitability of products/clients in the lights of the current MHI Strategy; liaising with the Legal team and opining on credit terms of the respective legal documentation; providing analysis and recommendation for new or existing clients or transactions; evaluating the need for new products approval and/or any operational issues arising from the on boarding process.
• Undertaking due diligence, credit analysis, business recommendation and ongoing monitoring for MHI clients.
• Reviewing daily credit news and rating actions to ensure that the risk is managed effectively and appropriate action taken.
• Providing ongoing support to Head of Credit Risk with respect to the management and monitoring of various products (e.g. Derivatives/ Repo)
• Liaising with Head Office as necessary under the process of approval or client monitoring.
• The role will demand a hands-on approach, with the individual required to see credit approvals through from beginning to end. This will involve dealing with some of the administration side of the approval and the credit assessment. The role coverage is dynamic, in line with Business demands and aligned to the bank’s growth strategy.
What do you need to succeed?
• Minimum 5 years experience in dealing with Vanilla and structured investment banking products (repo, derivatives)
• Demonstrated Investment banking credit analysis and risk management experience with hedge funds
• Good working knowledge of trading room products including: derivatives, repo and cash trading.
• In depth understanding of credit risk frameworks, risk appetite and exposure reporting.
• Analysis of one-off trades and experience of investment banking products with the ability to understand associated risks in bespoke transactions.
• Wide spectrum of financial institutions and or Corporate analysis
• Presenting and recommending credit applications to senior management and committee forums.
• Ability to interpret financial data and compile reports there from
• Numerate and possessing good presentational skills (written and spoken)
• Willing to cover a wide range of activities, some of which will be procedural
• PC skills: good working knowledge of MS Office (Power Point, Word and Excel), Bloomberg
• A good understanding of the other risk disciplines including market risk, operational risk and risk reporting.
• University Degree/Postgraduate Degree and/or recognized industry qualifications.
