Crane Operator (Heavy Cranes)

Barnsley - Full time permanent position
Key Responsibilities:
Crane Operation:
Safely operate heavy mobile cranes, following established procedures and adhering to all safety regulations and guidelines.
Lifting Operations:
Perform lifting operations for various construction and industrial projects, including loading and unloading heavy materials and equipment.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety standards during crane operations, including proper rigging and signalling procedures.
Preventive Maintenance:
Conduct pre-start checks and routine maintenance on the crane to ensure it is in proper working condition.
Site Preparation:
Evaluate and prepare the work site for safe crane operation, ensuring adequate support and clearance.
Load Charts and Capacity:
Understand and apply load charts to determine the safe lifting capacity of the crane for different working conditions and crane configurations.
Communication:
Maintain effective communication with riggers, signal persons, and other team members to ensure safe and coordinated crane movements.
Documentation:
Keep accurate records of crane operations, including maintenance logs, lift plans, and any incidents or near-misses. Able to manage client paperwork and issue back to head office.
Emergency Response:
Be prepared to respond promptly and effectively to any emergencies or potential hazards during crane operations.
Continuous Learning:
Stay updated with the latest industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to crane operations.
Qualifications and Skills:
CPCS Certification:
Hold a valid and current Blue CPCS certification for operating heavy mobile cranes.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience operating heavy cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 300 to 1000 tons.
Safety Focus:
Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks during crane operations.
Technical Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of crane mechanics, load charts, and lifting procedures.
Communication:
Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and site personnel.
Physical Fitness:
Possess the physical fitness required to handle the demands of crane operation.
