Background
During the current housing crisis, Cornwall Council are using a wide range of nightly purchased accommodation to meet the need of homeless households. This accommodation ranges from self- contained flats, caravans, chalets to hotels and bed and breakfast.

This is a 6 month post to review our existing portfolio of accommodation for building and HHSRS safety and to establish systems for the effective management of this risk going forward.

Job Overview
We are looking for somebody to lead a small team supporting our homeless service to provide assurance that the properties used for nightly accommodation by the Council all meet the expected standards of building safety compliance and contain no HHSRS risks for the households.

Skills and Experience
We are looking for somebody who has a good understanding of building safety and HHSRS compliance and who can also lead a small, dedicated project team. As part of the role the post holder would be the primary inspector of these properties. They would establish detailed reporting and data management systems, write up inspections reports, but they would also have the experience to risk assess whether the Council need to move households immediately or whether we can work with and manage the landlord to resolve any identified issues.

This role would suite somebody with any of the following areas of experience EHO qualifications, building surveying expertise, building safety compliance expertise, fire risk assessment expertise or CIH qualified. They would also be expected to have a broad enough expertise to risk assess the safety for the households involved and the develop lowest risk solutions for the Council and householders.

The accommodation we use is spread across the whole of the county of Cornwall and the appointed person would need to be based in Cornwall. Regrettably the disparate nature of the accommodation and availability of public transport it is not possible to do this role without access to a vehicle and a current driving licence.
