C40’s team of 400+ staff is based in offices in London, in New York, Johannesburg, Singapore, Delhi, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris, and individual staff based across 25+ different locations.
The strategic direction of the organisation is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors, which is chaired by Mayor Sadiq Khan of London and Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the C40 Board of Directors, responsible for operational oversight. A regionally diverse management team, led by Executive Director Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40. C40’s three core strategic funders are Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and Realdania.
Our international staff work with the C40 network under the leadership of city governments to deliver this mission. Using a data-driven approach, our team identifies and promotes the exchange of proven programmes and policies developed by cities; provides world-class research, technical expertise and access to key partners to deliver new programmes and policies with cities; and communicates cities’ individual achievements and collective leadership.

Department Description
The Climate Action Planning and Innovation (CAPI) team supports cities in developing and updating climate action plans (CAPs) consistent with the ambitions of the Paris Agreement, supporting cities to set ambitious goals, targets and actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change, whilst improving equity and also exploring innovation to accelerate action and unlock barriers to support transformation across the full scope of city life. Specifically the CAPI team supports cities:
capture and analyse the underlying data needed to inform effective, equitable and ambitious climate actions
with expert guidance for the development and mainstreaming of equitable and inclusive city-wide climate actions including addressing emissions created globally from city consumption patterns
to institutionalise systems to implement, monitor, evaluate and report outputs, outcomes, and impacts; and
identify and share their innovation solutions to accelerate action and/or overcome systemic barriers.
Position Description
The Climate Action Planning Coordinator will work across mitigation, adaptation, equity and innovation, supporting cities to develop and update their climate action plans, with actions to end the use of and support for fossil fuels, urban consumption and institutionalising climate budgeting. The role will also support the team's work on monitoring, evaluation and reporting on CAP Implementation, barriers and impact.
The role will lead the coordination of CAP reviews working in collaboration with the Regions and cross organisational team to support cities align their plans with the Cities Climate Transition Framework. The updated CAP Framework developed in consultation with representatives from a diverse group of C40 cities, incorporates the UN’s Integrity Matters recommendations and a stronger focus on city action to end reliance on fossil fuels and to influence emissions that occur beyond their administrative boundaries (consumption emissions) as well as placing a stronger emphasis on adaptation planning and resilience especially for global south cities.
As well as CAP updates the CAPI team will be supporting cities remaining accountable to their ambitious targets, building the capacity and practice of cities on Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL) to accurately monitor CAP implementation and collate key data points to track emissions and resilience. The coordinator role will play a critical role in ensuring C40 tracks implementation, gathering insights for cross organisational teams to inform their program development and fundraising to ensure we target our support to ensure cities meet their 2030 goals and targets.
The role will also support the dissemination of data and insights from CAP development as well as knowledge products and guidance through C40’s networks and initiatives and external partners and events.
Responsibilities:
Support the coordination and delivery of CAP Reviews and approvals against the Cities Climate Transition Framework.
Support data capture and development of tracking systems for C40 cities’ alignment with the Paris Climate Agreement. Including developing and populating spreadsheets, data entry and analysis.
Support tracking member cities’ participation and use of CAPI knowledge products.
Coordinate meetings, online consultations, webinars and workshops for cities and colleagues via zoom.
Support the research, analysis, and development of knowledge products and guidance for cities.
General support across the CAPI team in scheduling of consultations across multiple time zones and ensuring excellent record keeping of discussions (e.g. agenda’s, meeting minutes, etc.)
Person Specification:
Strong organisational skills and a delivery-oriented approach with excellent attention to detail;
Able to effectively manage their own time, prioritise activities and accomplish tasks with minimal oversight;
Outstanding
verbal and written communication skills in English .
Additional communication skills in other languages is highly desirable ;
Experienced with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Keen to master new software and tools;
Strong interest in developing a career in climate change, technical aspects of mitigation and adaptation planning, action and delivery
and a passion for C40’s work with cities.

Ability to work proactively and collaboratively as part of a diverse team across multiple time zones.
Other Requirements:
