The Client

My client is one of the leading fencing, landscaping and grounds maintenance contractors in the Midlands.

As a family business trading for more than 30 years their core values of honesty, reliability, teamwork, client focused, professional service is at the forefront of who they are.

Established in 1993 and a directly employed workforce of 60 employees, they operate throughout the Midlands, Leicestershire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire in the new build construction and commercial industry suppling all types of fencing, landscaping and grounds maintenance.

They are trusted partners of some of the UK’s major house building contractors including St Modwen, Persimmon, Avant, Miller, Countryside, Lovell, Partner, Bellway, Shropshire homes to name a few.

They also carry out commercial contracts for Welcome Break Services, Staffs County Council, Amey, O Brien contractors, AKN Build plus a number of other commercial clients.

They supply and install general fencing, soft landscaping and grounds maintenance as well as providing new build show home design and install service.

Due to continued growth of the business over the last 12 months, they are looking to add an experienced Contracts Manager to join their existing team.

Responsibilities & Duties

Ensure all business activities and company personal are managed on site efficiently and safely ensuring staff wellbeing.

Ensure all work planned that day is completed to the expected standard by each operative on all sites.

Manage all company activities from tender stage to site install working internally with the planning, purchasing and commercial team through to completion of the final account.

Ensure works are executed safely, to budget, on time and in line with all the stakeholder’s expectations and HSE stipulations.

Visit sites regularly as planned and scheduled by senior management.

Attend weekly client meetings as and when required throughout the duration of the contract.

Ensure all works are delivered to industry-leading health and safety standards.

Ensure all task bookings/daily briefing documents are produced on time, up to date on Reflow in a presentable format for the install teams.

Ensure all daily reporting documents are completed, by all the operatives on your sites, containing the necessary details and photos on Reflow. Anything not completed is reviewed, actioned as required filed or replanned.

Review of daily reporting sheets; using the company’s templates to produce early warnings detailing the event and any relevant consequences of the event that may impact the business.

To place purchase orders with the purchasing team, as instructed by the senior management or as otherwise required.

Check all sites for excess materials and report via Reflow and arrange to return to the yard as soon as possible.

Ensure all necessary inspections of plots/planned work prior to work commencing is completed and photos provided to the planning team 48 hours prior to start date.

Check works progress and quality throughout the submitted plots ensuring all work is completed and of the correct standard.

To assist the HS Manager to ensure that all accidents, near misses are reported and investigated as required.

To prepare and submit any necessary progress reports (weekly/monthly) to site or senior management.

To take accurate measurements of all completed works.

To carry out regular site visits as required during preparation and installation.

To collate information to ensure that all necessary labour/environmental/employment etc details are obtained and submitted to the client where necessary liaising with the HR department.

To establish and maintain strong working relationships with all staff, site teams, senior client teams and suppliers.

General

3+ years managing contracts in the UK construction industry.

CSCS Card Holder (essential)

SMSTS qualified (desirable but not essential)

A proven track record in leadership and contract management.

A proven track record in planning, implementing and managing multiple projects spread over a number of sites.

Strong multitasking skills, the ability to prioritise, be organised and work to tight deadlines.

Candidates will need to be comfortable and confident when attending senior management meetings and interacting with clients and suppliers.

A proven track record in carrying out the responsibilities described.

Communication, presentation and negotiating skills.

A working knowledge of with Microsoft Word, Excel & general computer skills required.

Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and be able to problem solve.

A willingness to adopt and work to the companies policies and procedures.

The company is a Uttoxeter based contractor and try to work within one hour’s drive from our head office however, on the odd commercial contract we travel further so the role does require a willingness to travel, including very occasional overnight stays as and when required.

£30,000 - £40,000 per year
