Contract Building Inspector
Location: Carlisle
Join our dynamic team and contribute to ensuring compliance with Building Control duties in the Carlisle District. As a Contract Building Inspector, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and enforcing Building Regulations to ensure the safety, sustainability, and quality of construction projects.
Key Areas of Responsibility:

Plan and Notice Assessment:
Review deposited plans and Building Notices for compliance with Building Regulations and related legislation, including cost assessments.

Site Inspections:
Conduct site inspections of ongoing construction to ensure adherence to Building Regulations.

Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records using the Section's 'Acolaid' computer system.

Stakeholder Negotiation:
Negotiate with owners, architects, agents, builders, and the public to ensure regulatory compliance.

Regulation Enforcement:
Enforce Building Regulations and take necessary actions against non-compliance.

Safety and Demolition Control:
Manage dangerous structures and oversee demolition control processes.

Customer Care and Promotion:
Ensure excellent customer service and promote Local Authority Building Control.

Professional Development:
Stay updated with industry changes and participate in relevant training and development activities.

Continuous Improvement:
Advocate for Best Value, customer service excellence, and continuous improvement within an inclusive and diverse work environment.

Performance Culture:
Implement and monitor performance policies and procedures to achieve service standards and targets.

Communication:
Maintain effective communication with staff, colleagues, Members, and customers to enhance service quality.

Health & Safety Compliance:
Promote best practices in Health & Safety, comply with statutory legislation, and follow the Council's health and safety policies. Identify and manage job-related risks through risk assessments, training, and monitoring.

Qualifications and Experience:
Full membership with MCABE, MCIOB, or MRICS.
Actively working towards or holding a minimum of a Class 2F registration with the Building Safety Regulator.
Practical and procedural knowledge in processing applications for major projects, including fire-engineered solutions and other regulatory guidance documents.
Experience in preparing evidence and serving as an expert witness in court for Building Regulations enforcement cases.
Health and Safety:
Promote best practices in meeting Health & Safety legislation requirements.
Ensure compliance with corporate and service-specific health and safety policies.
Identify and manage job-related risks, ensuring health and safety remain a top priority through effective application of risk assessments, internal controls, training, monitoring, and review.
