Job: Contract Building Surveyor

Rate: �60 p/h

Location: Carlisle

The Brief:

Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and compliance of buildings within a vibrant and historic community? Do you possess a keen eye for detail and a knack for interpreting building codes? If so, their is a great opening for a contract surveyor to join my clients team as a Temporary Building Inspector in Carlisle!

As a Temporary Building Inspector with my client, you will play a crucial role in upholding regulatory standards and ensuring the structural integrity of buildings throughout Carlisle. From conducting comprehensive inspections to collaborating with stakeholders, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the safety and livability of the community.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Checking of deposited plans and Building Notices for compliance with Building Regulations and allied legislation (including the checking and assessment of estimated costs).
  • Site inspection of work in progress to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
  • Record keeping including the use of the Section's 'Acolaid' computer system.
  • Negotiating with owners, architects, agents, builders and members of the public.
  • Enforcement of Building Regulations.
  • Dealing with dangerous structures and control of demolition.
  • Ensure customer care and the promotion of Local Authority Building Control.
  • To keep up to date with changes and developments within own area of work, co-operate with and participate in the Council's training and development activities.
  • Promote Best Value, excellence in customer service, a focus on continuous improvement and the promotion of these in the delivery of services and employment within the context of equality of opportunity and cultural diversity.
  • Implement and monitor a positive performance culture, complying with policies and procedures that enable delivery of agreed targets and service standards.
  • Establish and maintain effective two-way communication with staff, colleagues, Members and customers, seeking out and responding to opinions in order to further enhance the quality of service delivery.
  • To promote best practice in meeting the requirements of Health & Safety legislation and to comply with other relevant statutory legislation.

Health and safety:

  • To ensure that the Council's corporate and service specific health and safety policies are followed and training is undertaken in all relevant health and safety procedures
  • To be responsible for identifying and managing all risks associated with the job role through effective application of risk assessments, internal controls, training, monitoring and review to ensure health and safety remains a top priority.

About You:

  • Full membership MCABE, MCIOB or MRICS
  • Either actively working towards or holds a minimum of a Class 2F registration with the Building Safety Regulator.

Experience Required:

  • process applications relative to major projects for compliance with the Building Regulations, including those involving the application of extended regulatory guidance related to fire-engineered solutions, Building Bulletins, Firecodedocuments, etc. from receipt to determination without supervision;
  • the preparation of statements of evidence and attendance at Court as expert witness where the enforcement of Building Regulations and allied legislation so requires.
