Consultant Vascular Surgeon (NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant) - Vascular Surgery - Somerset NHS Foundation TrustWe are seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic vascular and endovascular surgeon to join our existing team. This is a replacement post, due to retirement and reduction of hours of existing staff. The appointee will join the 6 current vascular consultants, Mr Paul Eyers, Mr Andrew Stewart, Mr Ian Hunter, Mr James Coulston, Mrs Katy Darvall and Ms Natasha Chinai to provide a Vascular Surgical Service for the population of Somerset and North Devon. The post holder will be predominantly based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and will also form part of a 4 consultant team delivering outpatient and day case vascular services at North Devon, as well as Somerset community hospital outpatient sites. The post attracts a total of 10 PAs and includes being on call (1 in 7) for the Somerset and North Devon Vascular Network. All inpatient care for the network is delivered at the arterial centre in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.Consultant Vascular and Endovascular surgeon providing inpatient and on call (1:7) care at Musgrove Park Hospital (network arterial site), outpatient and day case provision at Musgrove Park Hospital, North Devon District hospital and outpatient clinics at Somerset community hospital sites.Somerset NHS Foundation runs services from two acute hospitals – Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Yeovil Hospital in Yeovil – services in the community and services from the 13 community hospitals in the county, a range of mental health and learning disability services and our subsidiary, Symphony Healthcare Services, runs a quarter of GP practices in the county.Somerset and North Devon Vascular Network is a successful, progressive and ambitious Vascular Network with an excellent reputation for providing a comprehensive range of vascular specialist services. To help develop further specialised Vascular services, utilising the new hybrid theatre facility.To work with the existing vascular team to ensure timely high standard care, striving for excellence of clinical outcomes and optimised patient experience.To work flexibly to ensure comprehensive cover for both elective and emergency vascular patients, the efficient use of the team’s resources and on-going development of the team and its members.Emergency On-call and Cover for ColleaguesTo participate in the Somerset and North Devon Vascular on-call rota (1 in 7).To provide cross cover for on call, elective commitments where possible, and continuing care of patients for colleagues away on leave across the Network locations.Education and ResearchTo contribute to the academic life of the Department of Vascular Surgery and the Trust.To contribute to the teaching of junior medical staff, medical students, specialist nurses and other Divisional staff .To undertake and promote research initiatives within the Department.Clinical GovernanceTo be aware of and comply with the Trust’s policies and ensure that their requirements, along with nationally recognised professional standards, are incorporated into clinical practice.To be responsible for accurate submission of all index procedures to the National Vascular Registry.To contribute actively to the Department’s Clinical Audit programme.To be responsible for personal continuing professional development and participate in the Trust’s system of annual appraisal for senior medical staff.AdministrationTo undertake all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients in a timely fashion.ManagementTo be accountable to the Clinical Director, and the Clinical Service Lead Vascular Surgery for the effective and efficient use of resources under his/her control.To attend and contribute to Vascular Network/Service meetingsTo contribute to planning the development of Vascular Surgical services.To take part in an annual review of Vascular Surgical services to arrange changes in job plans as may be mutually agreed with the consultants, and if necessary, after appropriate discussion with the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director.To participate in all required annual updates and mandatory trainingTo undergo annual appraisal and participate in the revalidation processes as stipulated by the General Medical CouncilMDTTo actively participate in vascular MDTs
